I kept on wondering the difference between the 02-03 and 04-05 WRX in terms of performance wise. I know that they're both the same HP and torque but how come the 02-03 RedLines at 7k Rpm while the 04-05 Redlines at 6.5k Rpm?

Mine MY04 says 7k. I think your getting the 04-05 and 06-07 confused. The 06-07 is 6500 because of the 2.5 engine instead of the 2.0 in the 02-05.

probably because people were over revving the piss out of the early ones and blowing them up.

yea, I think so. What confused me is that the 02-03's RPM gauge is on the right of the Cluster. 04+ is in the middle. I guess that confuses me there.

The GC era 98-2000 imprezas were all mixed up like that too. All the jdm cars had the speedo on the right, the tach all big in the middle. BUT the UK and the US imprezas were all reversed, with tach on the right and speedo in the middle.

In jdm land, I guess tach was more important than speed... probably cuz during the GC era, they hoarded all the nicer engines and sent the crappier ones worldwide.

I still need to get one of those jdm clusters, or maybe the UK wrx cluster since those have mph readings. At the dragstrip a month ago, I didn't know what to expect, so during my very first launch, I didn't do 1-2 shift fast enough and the tach bounced off 8k... my RS tach only goes to 8k! Didn't seem to hurt anything, but it scared me $hitless
