Just wonder what you guys think about hight speed chaises? I keep seeing people dieing in hight speed chaises. And a lot of times its people that are just bystanders. Do you think high speed chaises worth the dangerous outcomes?
Here is a one video where 2 people die in the chase http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=53c_1213534903

I know in Russia cops usually dont chaise speeders because its too dangerous for both the officers and other drivers.

    Depends on circumstances
On one hand: No point in risking people's lives for an IDed speeder with no other crimes
On the other hand: If running from the cops means you don't get caught, everyone will run

On the final hand, if tehy had $$$ for more choppers, this would be less of an issue, unles Nick cage is in a Gt500 ;)

I find this chaise to be pretty cool, considering it has high speed internet on the end of it.

Very true. Chasing motorcycles is a really bad idea in my opinion.

    Like...a high speed chaise lounge?

I didn't know reclining chairs came in auto-mobile versions, much less high speed varieties.

*edit* Dang it, Fondune-in-the-butt beat me to it.

Unfortunatly, they're the ones that need to be chased more. Harder to get a number tag.

    Sorry Taras, this thread sucks.
Did you think anyone was going to answer: "High speed chases that result in innocent deaths are AWESOME! I want to see more of them!!!"

I've often toyed with the idea that there should be a "High Speed Chase" version of SWAT. Highly trained guys/gals, with some serious firepower built into the cars, e.g. a roof/sidepod mounted Avenger*. Either let the perp go, or bring it to an end *right now*. I don't think that a high speed chase in and of itself is any worse than a slow one; it's this tendency to let them drag on for far too long that's the real problem. That and the attitude of your average perp that it's OK to set off on a mindless vehicular killing spree in a vain attempt to outrun the police because you got spotted with a can of beer in one hand and a spliff in the other while doing 10mph over the limit on the freeway.

    *An Avenger...

No i was not. I just was looking at some opinions. I think high speed chaises are a lot of times are not needed and are dangerous.

This is an even dumber idea than using the pit maneuver in traffic. Firing a high rate of fire gatling gun with rifle caliber rounds from a moving vehicle against a dynamicly moving vehicle driven by someone with no regards for life...in traffic. And how are you going to deploy a rapid response chase team? You have to have more of them than you do police and they'd have to patrol the streets with their gatling guns.

Best thing to do in my opinion is let them go. Or run them off the road and let mother nature deal with them upon impact with the tree or whatever it is that stops them.

True. It fun to watch 5 squad cars chaise an suv going 100+ on a busy highway, but thinking what could happen if they hit someone at that speed is just scary.

The iPhone spell check is annoying. It won't let me spell "hell" without adding an apostrophe, making it "he'll" :-/ sometimes it comes up with ridiculous words as well.

Of course, there is another problem, people just don't stop running when you stop chasing.
That SUV v. train thing that's floating around the net happened well after the chase was called off.

True. I wish they made a gadget that can shoot waves that can just immobilize all the electrical stuff in the car and just make it shut off. I am actually not sure if they already have something like that. I think in War of The Worlds Aliens used something like that( obviously fictional, but cool).

like teh dune said, an emp (electro magnetic pulse) will do this. this is not fiction, an emp will disable most electronic devices. nuclear strikes will generate emps

A slightly drastic solution to bring an end to a high speed car chase. Unless you used a very, very, very, very, very small warhead.

yeah that too. There was one in War of the Worlds too. Remember they could not use cars after the tripod thing starter to get out from under the ground. And there was a part where they replace an alternator on a van and i started up.

I'd like to see more reality and less wishing in these threads.

Yes, there have been experiments with EMP technology to try and end car chases. Keep in mind, once you disable the car, you just took out the power steering and brakes as well. Not much good disabling the car if you just set up Grandma down the street to get hit by a car that can't steer or stop.

Each department has their own guidelines as far as starting and terminating a chase. Many times these chases are terminated, but the bad guy wrecks the car anyway. It's a double edged sword...Chases put others at risk, but if you don't chase the bad guys know they have an out. Just push on the gas and the cops won't chase, and I don't think that's an acceptable option. What's the point of having laws in place if the officers can't enforce them? If all it takes is to speed away from an officer, then what's the point?

People who run deserve to be hung, they are the criminals, why is everyone always trying to convict the cops.

When I go to LA there is always a car running on TV. The funny thing is that the cops are not chassing them at all. The helicopters do all the work and the perps just keep driving around endangering everyone around them until they run out of gas of drive into a spot where they can't get out.
