Ok, so the plans for TCing the Outback have been hold until I can figure out an issue which I'm sure is going to be expensive....

2,000 miles into an oil change I'm a quart and a half low!!! Nothing out the tail pipe, nothing in the intake, nothing in the coolant and the PCV is clean. Where did it go?...oh yeah, it's not leaking LOL

No, I distinctly remember pouring in 4.8qts of oil. Why the hell would you siphon my oil? LOL

check the oil pump for any leaks. specifcally where the pump meets the block. I had a leak here where i would lose about 1qt/1k miles. there were no spots on the ground becuase the leak would only happen when the car was running, and the oil would drip down, be forced into the oil pan and then back into the exhuast manifold right where the left/right bank connect in the Y. it would thus burn off there leaving no trace.

also check your valve cover gaskets, for wetness.

Alright will do, thanks dynapar. Although like I say, nothing is coming out the exhaust. we fixed a clean white rag against the tail pipe and drove for a few miles getting onto the gas a couple of times and it came of cleaner then a newer car...like totally not a speck of black on the rag.

Giraffe, I really don't know how miles are on the car. The odo says something similar to 174,xxx but I know the car has a new engine in it. I don't know when it had it done and I don't know if it was a rebuilt engine or a used low mileage engine. I do know that at 140,xxx the entire cylinder heads had to be replaced after the wife drove it without paying attention to the temp gauge and it cracked both HG and heads. The mechanic says he pulled out OEM gaskets. OEM gaskets on a Series 1 ej25 lasting to 145,xxx? I think not!

if it is burning off where i said it was it wouldnt be blowing oil through the exhuast. as it would be burning on the outside of the exhuast manifold.

Oh, well I was underneath today to double check for wetness and nope, they are showing no signs of oil having been on them. I think I'm just gonna change the oil and check it more often and keep a track of it.

Most strange, my EJ22T w/ 194k original rings/HG's burns at most .5qt every 3k+ if at all. It used to leak a lot more but new front main/HP o-ring/oil pump reseal, oil pan, valve covers, and oil separator plate reseal fixed that.

Maybe try after you shut her down, sit in the garage for a little bit and just smell, sometimes the oil if its leaking on say the pass side valve cover down onto the exhaust manifold up-pipe area won't burn off until the temp has gone up a little while the car sits, i had a very slight valve cover leak and it would only burn off after the car sat for 5-10 mins.

where did it go? I'm suspecting the road where you've driven and/or the parking spaces you've parked in.

where did it come from? your engine

how it got there? well.....there's essentially only 2 places it could get out, the exhaust, or directly out of the engine.

do a compression test. that'll give you a quick indication of the cylinder condition. after that....valve covers, oil pan, oil pump, etc.

Thats perfectly normal. But 1.5 qts in 2,000mi is not normal.

The engine is not wet in any places at all. I'm not that excited to do a compression test on this thing...I just changed plugs 30,000mi ago and I don't think I'm ready to pull them back out just yet LOL....the thing can ****ing burn all the oil it wants before I do that again in a hurry.

Will try that today, never really thought about that! Gonna be tough to smell it over the cats though LOL
