Hi, I bought a 2008 Impreza from a Subaru dealer a few months ago. Paid for TT&L, and picked my tabs up at the dealer a few weeks later. However, no title (car was paid for with a check, I own it in full). Is there something else I need to do, or is it just REALLY slow? I paid sales tax, registration, insurance is updated, etc. - but not sure if I am missing something. This is the second car I have ever purchased, and the first in Minnesota. Thanks, Ken
Title should go to you even if there was a lien on the car. Some states the bank holds the title till the lien is paid. Anyway, check with the dealer to see if they submitted the paperwork. You can also check with the mn dvs. Just have the vin handy and they can see if its transfered to your name, pending, or still in the dealership's name. That said, 2 months is a bit on the long side. I recommend double checking in case there was a typo or some other error along the way.
There are some defining factors that could be in play here. How long was the vehicle on the lot prior to you purchasing it? Did the previous owner have the title to give to the dealer or did they have to pay it off and then wait for it? All of these can take anywhere from a couple weeks to over a month. That said, have you talked with the dealer and informed them that you do not have the title? We are also going through a few holidays now and it could just be really slow. Your best bet and hassel the dealership.
Agreed with Medic_538. I had to hassle the dealership that I bought our forester from also, up to the point where they did not know what was going on. Talk to only one person at the dealership. Most likely going to be the New Car title person, they are usually the ones who knows where and what can be done.
the douchebags from victoria autohaus conveniently waited to submit my paperwork for 4 months on my aero, then the fine state of mn took an additional two months almost to get me the title
We traded in a 08 impreza and the dealership filled out the new title incorrectly. We waited 2 months for the correct one to come. Color and miles on the car?
also did you pay for the car in cashe or do you have a loan out on it? Alot of places when you have a lien out on the car they also have the name of the lien holder on the title and they will have had to send it to them for a signature before sending it to you for yours. ain t least thats what happened with mine when i bought my car in iowa.
I bought my latest car on August 12, or right around there, took the title in the next week and it came on Friday (December 16), I think DVS is just horribly slow.
It took 3 months for my title to show when I bought new in July (right at the end of the shutdown). Definitely slow.
I dunno, my last 3 title transfers (November 2011, October 2011, February 2010) took less than 3 weeks. The most recent one took 10 days. None of them were expedited. Definitely check with the dealership and/or dvs.
Thanks guys! Talked to the dealer, and they said they are seeing ~3 months. I don't need it (unless I all of a sudden want to order a new Audi S6...), just didn't know if the dealer was doing it or not.
