So I want to do this right. After compiling and sifting through numerous resources and opinions (the search button is my friend), I want to get my new Down-Pipe coated both inside and out.

I checked with GrimmSpeed (you know I want to support our local Subaru boys), but the process they use can only really coat the exterior =/

Has anyone had a full coating done locally? If not locally, where did you send your parts to get this done and how was the service/price?

Although important, time line is at the bottom of my list, I'd rather do it right than fast.

i dont know how well a coating would hold up to direct flames/direct heat, ive never really heard of any kind of exhaust being coated inside, BUT thats me

    reading is your friend!!!!

If you look through some of the Subiesport magazines there is a place in there that has an advert for coating services which I believe would far surpass anythign Grimmspeed has on offer, due to the fact they have far more invested in their equipment to do higher quality stuff... (not a knock on Grimmspeed) just comparing apples to apples... if you wanted just the outside doen then GS would be ideal for price and quality, but seeing as you want the insides done too, then you will want to make sure whomever does it uses something that isnt gonna flake apart and go through your turbo etc

I know it is your car and such, and you've done research. But for the price you are going to pay for a downpipe coating what gains over a non interior coated downpipe do you get? What is the benefit to coating the inside of the pipe?

First let me say I am not tied to interior coating, but I want to explore my choices before making a decision. If the cost is substantially more or people bring relevant issues to light, I will undoubtedly pass on it.

    Summary:
Higher exhaust speeds/temps than exterior coating alone (how much?).
Acts as a better heat shield lowering underhood temps (how much?).
Possibility of flaking (this is only an issue pre-turbo/cats).
Less heat transfer to the down-pipe itself (does this make a difference? could this prevent heat warp/flaking? I really don't know.)

Maybe I missed something while I was reading, but how exactly does anything that goes through the Down-Pipe then go through the turbo?

per what our coating supplier has directly told us, almost all of your gains are going to be from the exterior coating not the internal coating. imo, i'd rather listen to the actual coating manufacturer vs. some armchair coating engineerings on nasioc.

nathan, can you explain how this certain company's coating is superior to ours? us, crucial, and jet-hot use the same stuff. actually, supposedly 90% of all coatig companies use the same brand of coating we use.

Swain Tech or the Jet hot 2000. Did the Jet hot 2000 on my uppipe and downpipe with over 40k on both pipe (coated inside and out), and they look as good as new.

Ok I have to say something...

inside gains are marginal at best.

    You want it done right?
    You want it done quickly?
You want it done close to home?
you want it done by a community company that stands behind their products?

GO TO GRIMMSPEED....the are 10 min down St. Clair right as you hit down town St. Paul.....

Justin knows his stuff...every product that comes out of grimmspeed is developed by noticing the slacking of other companies and improving it
they literally have THE BEST PRODUCTS out there....

if they think that coating the inside of the pipe is not worth it then its not...

    GRIMMSPEED FTMFW!
