just like the the subject states. where is the best place to go and get my rex tuned would prefer dyno tuned. 2004 wrx-list of mods: blitz nur cbe, helix up and down, borla headers, aem shortram, modded wrx injectors, hks bov, vf22, walbro fuel pump, and ecuteck reflash(from vividracing). well right now my car idles like crap sometimes the vacuum will bounce up and down. and i have misfire codes. so i know that i'm running lean already so where is the best place to go? another thing would it make a difference if i got the car tuned some place hot and at a lower altitude then us here? will the car still run like crap? i've heard too people saying yes and no so i need to know.
You will need to go to grd in chicago. Thats is the closest place thta can do ecutek reflashes. Also, alititude won't really effect the tune, the ecu can compensate for the alt changes. Russ
You can read more on NASIOC, but lots of people have idling and misfire issues with modded stock injectors. I was just reading a thread about it the other day...
yeah i know. i'm on there alot, but i have heard that grd produces some very low numbers and that they can't tune that well or is that not true? i'm not sure
Won't fuel make a difference, though? I'd be sure to bring some cans of our gas with to get tuned on.
so did dyno comp do a good job? i know that they are good but i just wanna know. yeah i 'll probably do that and bring some fuel with me.
Heck yes, this is vital advice for anyone traveling out of state to get tuned. I can personally attest to the differences and others have experienced the same.
Dyno-comp did a good job on the tune. Go to Dynocomp.com and talk to Richard...He is very knowledgeable about Ecutek with Subarus. The only problem with mine was the vaccum line for my vf34 the orphis was too small and cause boost spike and drops after making it bigger it is fine and smooth accross the RPMs. Richard will explain...he knows..
Dynocomp is a bit conservative so he will tune your car a little rich...around 10.5 A/R instead of 11-11.5. I had mine sent to him with all my mods and Oct. level (93) and he relfashed it and sent it back to me...
It is always better to bring your car to them to Dyno and tune instead of sending them the ECU only. But I'm a pretty busy guy at work and have no time traveling to AZ anytime soon. Overall they did a good job...
10.5:1 is way, way rich for a "tuned" car in my opinion. I mean there is a lot to be said for safety and conservatism but that's going overboard. just my non-professional 2 cents.
It can be better that's for sure...I was planning on spray'in NOS, that is why they tuned it a little rich...But I changed my mind a week ago and I have to get the ECU reflashed again...remember 10.5 is @ 18.5psi full boost, not at idle and cruzing speed. Acutally it ranges 10.5-10.7 @ full boost...cruzing speed and idle is @ 12.8-13, which is about right. Not bad for a guy that didn't bring a car to dyno tuned. Every contact made was phone and emails.
If you are idling at 12.8-13:1, your fuel trims are REALLY messed up. At cruise and idle your car should be at stoich (14.7:1). 10.5:1 under full boost is still excessively rich IMO.
Ok, if you are runing anything other that 14.3-14.5 crusining, you have some problems. Depending on the gas, you should idle right around 14.6-14.7 (non-oxy) and a bit richer on the ethanol crap (maybe 14.4-14.5). What you should shoot for is around 11:1 under full boost and you should be able to support that all the way to redline. If you plan on using nos, your afr shouldn't really change, cuz to do it right you want a wet kit (which also sprays gas). I have been running 21-22psi (daily driver on pump gas) for the past 2+ years at 11:1 or leaner depending on the start of tune my car is in. For a while I was running 20psi at 11.5:1 and didn't have 1 knock (running 18-19 degrees of timing). If you want to check what you are really running for afr, let me know I have a wbo2 that we can throw in your car. Russ
actually add a point from the previous...instead of 12.8-13 it is 13.8-14 still somewhat rich from what your stating...It is going back to Dynocomp anyways for retuning. Since now I know how the numbers look. Zola your correct on being rich...it should be around 14.5-14.8 for cruz'in & idle. At full boost it should be 11-11.5...Overall it can run a little bit leaner...My goal was to get Flames out of my exhaust!?! J/k
It looks like it is off by .8 on the A/R Overall. So I will have them re-adjust the map on that...Thanks for the help WRX1 & Zola
I may take up on that offer Russ, after I send my ECU and get it reflashed around 2 month from now...I'm curious to see what the A/R is after the reflash
i was also looking at grd becase dyno comp is so far away. i was looking into driving down there but i got the directions and it was like 1800 miles away. so how do you guys think grd is? good....bad? all this advice is really helping thanks
I visited GRD on a dyno day for the St Louis guys about 3 years ago (just watched though). At the time they had a Dynapack and I would assume that's still the case. They've tuned hundreds of cars I'm sure.
