I just bought a silver 2002 WRX, and I'm gonna have some questions for all you folks. Let's start with where to buy gas. From reading some posts I get that holliday aint the place. The car is all stock so i'm not lookin for race gas yet. just tryin to avoid fuel related issues. The advice would be appreciated.
BP 92 oct. by far is the best quality gas. They are not always the cheapest, but they are the most consistant and the most popular gas station. Therefore their gas isnt sitting in an underground tank for months before going into your car!
The biggest thing is what mods are done to the car? if it is stock (or close to it), you could get away with pretty much any kinda of 91/92. One you start modding your car, you will be flowing more air, so you will need to make sure that you have the gas to support the airflow. Then you want to make sure that you get gas from a station that gets new gas quite offen. if you can try finding a non-oxy/ethanol free station. the real answer on what gas is the best, is the gas that you get tuned on. Russ
I will use anything. I run a cobb AP 91 map and I'll typically will put in 87 or the lowest octane or cheapest I can find. kidding. I'm trying to stay with SA or BP as much as possible. Always the highest octane available at the pump. A few cents more doesn't matter when I'm trying to protect my engine, which is an investment i don't want to cheap out on.
I am being sarcastic as SA is known to have water in their tanks.... hence when it gets sucked throught he pump with your gas while dispensing you can pay for water with your gas...
^^^Yikes, Yikes, and Yikes! I go to SA cause it seems to be okay with the car and I get super moms sandwich real cheap:yumyum: LOL
BP Only. and if i plan on running her hard, i drive up to the BP off of Bass Lake Rd. and 494 where they have BP 92 Non-Oxy. Anyone know of any other BPs that carry Non-Oxy?
I just stick to places that seem to get alot of business. I also change up the brands so I know at least some of the time I'm getting the best gas. Some day all the cool kids will switch to Holiday and SA and we will start seeing threads about the damage done to engines and cd changers from using too much BP and shell gas.
i try to use shell & bp when possible, sometimes mobil too if not, i'll put in a few gallons of sa or holiday
is this when they are out of 110? lol althogh some brand stuff can be deserved i dont know if the water thing is universal. i doubt SA plans to put water in all their tanks to mess up cars. it just kinda happens. my dad got a tank full of water at a BP station a while ago, but i have never had or heard of another situation like that from the same station. i run what ever is closest when i am low. i try to avoid holiday, but if i must i will use it. they are also the only ones out by me who carry E85, so yeah.... cheap high octane.
I probably should have specified that most people I know do not use more than half a tank of e85, I would doubt this sort of mix would have any more effect on combustion times than some of the water injection systems that people use. e85 probably does work a little better for na cars, but probably wouldn't harm any forced induction engines either
They have 92 non oxy. I have only seen the 91. Do they charger more for it then standard 92? The mobil off of valley view and 494 sells 91 non oxy for the same price as regualar premium.
every where i know that has non oxy is 92, i have never even seen 91 in twin cities yet......oh and they don't charge any more or less......it's the same price as premium.
Thanks for the help. Thanks for the advice. ive been putting SA gas in it so far with no immediate ill-effects, but there is a bp right across the street, so i'll give that a try
Worst tank of gas I've had, recently was from a busy SA, that is a little over a year old. Worst tank before that was BP gas from a old small station in Richfield. Overall I try for busy gas stations, I try for Kwik trip and Bp's, Kwik trip only has 91 octane, but I've never had an issue with their gas, it's top tier rated, so it gotta be ok. Though I do have to say I try to avoid buying anything else from kwik trip, there stores are wierd, the stuff the sell is weird, and their Pop selection plain sucks, dunno why I just don't like the stores.
I avoid Kwik trip. BP is good but its usually easier to go to SA for me. As for Holiday and Shell, we don't get any of that down here.
Kwik trip to me is kind of like wal-mart I try to aviod it by any means. I dont like how all the Kwik trips came in on every block and pushed out all the smaller gas stations around the area. We used to have a BP but when two Kwik trips come in arms reach from it they had to close down. That is the same reason I try to aviod wal-mart unless its like 2am and I want a video game lol.....I have nothing agaisnt KT gas but I would rather support the little guy.
Gas never really gets the chance to sit in the underground tanks for more then 24 hours at most gas stations. Heck, some of the major ones get refilled 2-3 times a day. I've had the best luck with BP. Non Oxy is nice if I can find it (local station closed that sold it) and I always stay away from Holiday.
noob question here...but does putting in gas for a NA make any difference? I see people put in 93 octane just because it's a new car. Some people even say that they can feel the difference, like more power and such.
I wouldn't put higher octane in a car unless it's tuned for it. It's a waste of money otherwise. Your car won't gain anything magical by putting it in there. If you don't know, the only difference in higher octane is it's ability to resist ignition under compression. It won't hurt your car by putting higher octane in it, but it won't do jack squat unless your engine needs it either by extra tuning, to reduce knocking, etc... You can read more on the subject of putting higher octane into your car from the following websites http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/autos/octane.htm http://www.wanderings.net/books/is-high-octane-gas-worth-the-money Those people who are putting 93 octane in their cars just because it's new, quite honestly, are just pissing money away unless by luck 93 is recommended for their car.
Higher octane gas doesn't give you more power, it prevents knock (predetonation). In fact, in some cases putting in a higher octane gas then what your car needs will hurt performance. The answer to what your car needs is pretty simple, the lowest octane you can go with no knock... or just follow the owners manual.
Yah, I tell them, "How come I don't feel any difference?" Like my mom she still puts 93 octane in her van just because it's still new and crap. Hehehe...time to go make easy money muahahaha
