I'm not a hardcore fisher but i like to fish. I'm wondering which is the best lake to go to for some bass fishing? Or which lake has variety of fishes. Also, what kind of bait did you use to catch em. I'm looking to go out this weekend for the opener.
by far the best bass lake ive ever been to is whaletale lake in st boni there is two sides, the side that doesnt have the boat landing on it is the best.
My Grandparents live on that lake, the side opposite from the boat landing. Personally, I would hit up either Lake Waconia, lots of big bass, northern's, walleyes, pan fish (look at a map of the lake, tons of reefs and sandbars) or for some hardcore bass fishing go try Bryant in EP - huge bass in there
If you don't want to travel far and want something within the city's I would reccomend Sucker Lake. When I got my big sunny that day there was a guy fishing next to me with a crappie jig who pulled out a 3 pounder (bass). That lake for some reason has tons of different varities. Bass, walleye, carp, etc.
are you catch and release or do you keep fish? Depending on that I can either tell you some really good lakes or some really crappy lakes
Minnetonka is a pretty good bass lake. my cousin used to to weekly tournys when he still ived up here, and every week he would catch some MONSTER sized bass. also the lake is full of other stuff, sunnys, crappies, walleye, northerns, carp ect.....
Minnetonka, Waconia, Mitchel, Whitebear, Sunrise, Forest L., Phalen..... these will all average 16-22" if you are fishing the right spot. We use "wacky" worms, scum frogs, spinners, texas rig w/ jig or bullet slip sinker, jigs... There are mutiple places to look for bass if you know what you're looking for. Lily pads, timble, algae patches, submerged weeds, small weed patches, docks, trailers, rocksides, big boulders in the water, tires, bricks, boats/pontoons, water trampaleans, drops offs of different bottem structure; rocks, sand, weed lines..... sewer drainages, water inlets, sallow bays/backwaters, cattail/reeds, underwater humps/islands...... but since it's SPRING TIME, bass are still nesting. They'll be found in their nests. This can be anywhere in any cover just like listed above. If the weeds have grown a bit, you'll notice open "pockets" in the weedbeds. These will most likely be nests, bass or large crappie. yah? yah?
Big Marine and Lake Waconia. I've had success with gary yamamoto senko worms, spinner bait, and ribbit frogs.
