A co-worker doesn't want to drop the $ on Hakkas, but has it narrowed down and I don't know anything about either: So, Which would you buy? Continental Extreme Winter Pro: Or General Alitmax:
Are these any better than the Hankook i-Pikes? They seems to be around the same price (when mounted/shipped balanced).
I just got my general's on friday, haven't used them yet, looking forward to reporting on their performance
The Generals have been a solid performer in the past. However, Continental has spent a TON on tread compounds lately. I think they'd be the best to go with. Also, asymmetric tread design would allow them to be rotated more often, and therefore wear more evenly for the life of the tire.
the continentals will handle ice better than the generals. I used a set of generals at sno*drift last year (briefly at shake-down. they sucked so bad on the ice I had to switch to blizzaks. they are however, a great tire for snow and general driving - just can't handle lots of ice).
I got generals last year and to date is the best snow tire i have owned... I had no issues with ICE but I don't drive like Carl Last year they were rated better. I have i-Pikes on the wife's car and Generals on mine. They are good tires, but I can't tell the difference when they are on two different cars (FWD vs AWD).
I blame that on the Asian Co-Driver in my car. As soon as he stepped in my car I was driving slower, weaving in and out of lanes and yelling V-TEC YO! OR I could just avoid curbs.
Hankook I pike's w409 should be the same price as either of those, i have a set of them on all 3 subarus
I ran the Generals last season and they seemed to work well. Never had the Conti's. Switched to the Haaka R's for this season. Time to try the cool stuff and see if they're worth it.
Ipike's or General would be my two options. However, I had Dunlup Wintersport on my two Subarus last year. Good tire on the road but not so much in deep snow. I was looking switching to General or Ipik's for this year.
