No its not Fongs girlfriend complaining about 2 minutes of love and as many in inches...

I just got back form my trip.... drove my car today and there was a whining noise from the car... almost like differential whine... problem is it was parked the whole time I was away and never made this noise before it was parked....

it happens when the load is released ie: after accelerating and you ease of it screams and howls.... put on the gas and it almost goes away.... I figured at first it may be a wheel bearing in the front right but they just constantly make noise or would with the amount it is making... and the sound is like my old mazda diffs after a few to many donuts and locked diffs...

so then I get home and was putting the car in the garage... got out to move the stroller and toys my young boy left laying around... and when I got back in I put it into first gear and it kinda made the sound it makes when synchros dont mesh properly.... no grinding.. just like a thud and the whole drivetrain vibrated... so I put the clutch back in and tried again.. same thing... now remember the clutch WAS STILL IN when it did it... not engaging...

so I tried it again.. same thing... then I pulled it into nuetral and straight back in.. perfect... hmmm so then I put it in nuetral let out the clutch put it in again and clunk... vibration again...

so now I am confused... is it the clutch?? the gearbox???

    Has anyone had this issue....??

so I tell my wife and sneak in the whole well if its the gearbox then I will do a clutch etc while it is out cause they wear and its too much work to take it all out again when it goes... yada yada come on all you married guys understand ha ha ha

also I am pretty much certain that the Dealership WILL NOT cover it under even the extended warranty (which I will cancel) due to the exhaust and 19in wheels....

so any of you subaru dealership employees... can you give me an idea of my chances to have this warrantied?? I mean I know we can do it in my store with my own techs.. but FREE would be better... ha ha ha;)

I'm confused, so did you put it in or did you get slapped? Try a Dirty Sanchez on her, and then go buy some pizza for your guys at the shop so they will do it for you for free.

^^^ you would get confused anytime in and out is mentioned... cause that 2inches doesnt get you in and when you arent in how can you get out... ha ha ha and you keep your dirty sanchez's to yourself... and now I am confused.. when you say to try a dirty sanchez on 'her' are you referring to your girlfriend??? cause thats the only ' her ' mentioned and from what I heard your girlfriend is packing more between the knees then you!?!?!

now has anyone got anything actually helpful to add or is it just Fongs nightly fantasy I get to read...

Ok, we shouldn't let Nathan endure our "silent treatment" anymore.
I believe it whines because you're low on tranny fluid or (worse) a tranny component is worn and needs replacement. My tranny makes that same sound when it's engaged and when I let off the gas in first or second gear. I cannot help anymore because I'm not a transmission man.

    hahah thanks FONG...

well mine makes it in any gear....

the trans fluid to my knowledge is good... and why would it drive perfectly... then park for 2 days.. then all of a sudden parts are worn.... just not sure what is going on...

I will take it to my shop tomoorw fo rmy Techs to inspect but man... it got worse driving it (hello einstein) so I dont want to be running it back and forth to figure it out...

I changed my oil over to synthetic 75w90 about 3 mths ago... I think I may drop the fluid and check it tomorrow... get tthe techs to figure it out if they can...

was curious to see what others thought or had experienced as a few of you have had transmission issues

Well from the sounds of how you explained it, it sounds as if you get a grinding when trying to put the car into 1st gear? If that's the case, I'd guess one or more of your synchros are on their way out. Typically a synchro failure will only begin to grind periodically and then get worse as time goes on.

I'm not sure if it was related, but I had my 1st and 2nd gear synchros replaced after switching over to synthetic (after a few thousand miles the grinding started) back when my car had around 8k on it. I can tell you that I'll never take the chance of switching over again, hehehe.

Go check the dipstick. There's always the possiblity that there was a leak and now it's either low or nearly bone dry.

anyone heard of the quaife rear lsd??? found one for $900 lifetime warranty.. cheaper then through SUbaru here with club discount... waiting to get it out so we can see what it will take to fix it ourselves

damn synthetic oil is too thin for rear diff

75w90 synthetic.. same weight that was supposed to be in it.. I checked around for a while first... but hey 5hit happens... looks like it is the planetry gears.. couple of teeth decided to chip or crack.. so it is at Kennedy getting looked at adn they will know tomorrow if they can fix it or if spending $900 on a quaife LSD is a better option...

    options

    stocker through SUbaru $1200+
    with MNSubaru Discount: $1000

    LSD - $900 delivered

or whatever Kennedy charges.. maybe $200 - $300

so if Kennedy comes through it will be them.. if not I will have an LSD soon

I hope you get your car running again, Nathan. You can always pay Fuji like $50 to have him weld the rear diff so you can do doughnuts in front of your store.

thought about it... but why would I pay Fuji to weld my diff when I have a welder and have welded diffs in my old rotories... ha ha ha and then put it in and blow my transmission... I would rather spend that excess money that I dont have on turbos and things I want... ha ha

oh yeah... I called Minnetonka Subaru where I purchased the vehicle.. spoke with someone in service (hmm OXYMORON if ever I heard of one) and spoke about the chipped teeth on my spider gears in my diff and what the outcome for warranty etc with an extended warranty....

basically he told me that how it porbably happened was Ihad it parked, then when I drove it and turned into a sharp parking space it dislodged somthing then it in turn started to howl..... WT-HELL!!! you ahve got to be 5hitting me... man I have been around cars for like 5 mins apparantly even after saying hey I am the owner of a repair shop and we just removed the diff on a car with 47000 miles and wt-hell is the deal... must have thought I was your mum or something... dingbat

well I wont say what I would have cause it may have been someone on here but I doubt it as they would have realised who I was I am sure...

Brian seems like a great guy after meeting him in person.. very helpful with the limited interaction we had...

anyways... Minnetonka is on 394.. or not.. whichever one is on 394... they suck.. anyways...

LSD is in... put in standard oil 80w90... still has a small noise for first day but now NOTHING... sweet...

so I go around a corner the otehr night when it was raining.. layed the gas pedal down onto the highway.. felt the rear end kick in and get a little squirmey.. this is gonna make it such a fun car to beat on.. ha ha ha

hmmmmm..... THEY DID DO IT... QUAIFE LSD add some side bearings form Brian (through RAY) and you got an LSD race rear end in an 03 WRX for $1000.....

Subaru do it it would have started at $1200 for diff ($980 through Brian if I could) plus labor... which I assume would have been another $400 at least...

pretty much the only stuff we dont do here is FACTORY WARRANTY stuff or weird stuff... that is more specialised
