So why did you buy your Subaru over all other car manufactures and makes? How do you like it? How long have you owned it? Subaru for now or Subaru til death?
Originally bought it just for the awd. Then bought for the fun. I think I will be Subaru for a while though I may venture off other places for other projects
I bought my first Subaru, a WRX when the WRX first came out in 02. It started out just being another car for me then it was modded to a stage 3 with all the STI bolt ons. I beat the crap out of that car and it survived. I then became a Subaru beliver. I'm still a Honda man at heart but I will own a Subaru forever.
^that subaru = transition medium. depending on model, they can be a great value for the money. I'm hoping to replace the lgt with a 335xi in a couple years. If the 4runner ever dies (unlikely) I'd like to replace it with an h6 forester.
I once had a ls turbo civic sleeper. I walked into a bowling alley to use the phone. I wasn't gone longer then 5 mins. I walked out and someone broke into my car. Stole everything inside the car and inside the bay. It was a sad day. Since that day, I will never buy/build another civic. The only Honda I will probably own now would probably be a S2000.
I bought a Subaru for compromise (sort of). I'm a fan of all the late-90's/early 2000's Japanese sports cars and would have loved to have an RX-7 or an S2000, but there's no back seat for the kid. Also, RWD is a bit of a pain around here in the winter. Evo's were still out of my price range when I bought my car 5 years ago, so I settled on a WRX and eventually upgraded it over the years. I'll have at least this Subaru for life, as I can't justify selling it after all the blood put into it. After looking at the BRZ, though... Yeah, I'll likely have another Subaru in my lifetime.
I bought it because it was a steal of a deal and it was a manual trans, but this was getting on 8 years ago, and its become time to replace it, at least when it comes to daily driver (summer) duty. (its still gonna stay around as a winter car, because its still excellent) I'm currently looking at mid 90s C and E class mercedes and XJ6 jags, something that will cruise on the autobahn (94 between monticello and maple grove) well, and has some more space and luxury. I'm leaning more twards the Jag because its just that much more car for the money. As for our Tribeca, that thing is going to stay with us forever, its perfect for what my wife uses it for, and I never have to worry about her in it.
I fell in love with the 04 STI's when they came out and was planning on buying a new 05. The wife told me that if I bought one I would have to sell my truck, and I couldn't do that. I ended up waiting a few years and bought my 05 in 2009. My initial plan was to store the STI in the winter and drive the truck. One month into winter my truck broke down and I was forced to take the STI out of storage. I couldn't believe how well it performed in the snow. Needless to say I never looked back and ended up selling my truck last fall becuase I just didn't drive it anymore. I agree with the above statements that Subaru is an affordable performance car, but some day would like to own a GTR, M5, ZR1 or a Porsche turbo.
I wanted an Audi Quattro coupe....but they were too german (expensive/unreliable). And my parents both had Subarus when I got my license, so it only made sense. Also, when the Baja came out in '02-'03, I thought it was kind of neat, and upon further research, I discovered the Brat, and then discovered the offroad capability of '80s subarus..... It? I've had 12 Subarus over the 10 years since I got my driver's license ('84, '85, '86, '87, '88, '88, '88, '89, '92, '92, '92, '94) They've all served their purpose extremely well. And they're all extremely well-engineered and easy to work on. Don't know. I'm really not a fan of how big and heavy Subarus have been getting over the last 20 years. But they're not beefy enough for serious rock crawling. So my primary vehicles are Toyotas, a 4Runner and a Celica. But I still own 2.5 subarus ('84 Brat, '89 XT6, and half a '92 SVX). The GT86 will likely be my next car, and though I'm leaning towards the Toyota version, it's still be a Subaru at heart.
I was reading through this, and wondered if I had pictures of all of them.....so here goes. Ordered by year: '84 Brat: '85 GL: '86 GL: '87 GL: '88 GL: '88 GL: '88 XT6: '89 XT6: '92 Loyale: '92 Legacy: '92 SVX: '94 Legacy:
I chose a Subaru because I wanted something I could drive year-round without any issues. Three years later, I am convinced that I will always have a Subaru of some sort as long as I live where it snows. If I live somewhere that doesn't get a ton of snow, I will likely purchase a RWD vehicle.
I've modified DSMs, an Audi and a Supra. It was time to try something different. I've owned my '05 since April of '06 and I do like it, with 2 exceptions - the paper thin skin and the interior rattles.
I bought my WRX because i am a hotrod nut and love decent power, but can't afford a beauty/garage queen at this stage of my life. Would love to own a 1970 Cuda. That being said, i was able to get a DD and a little hotrod action out of the Subaru. Plus the AWD has me hooked and i'll never drive anything else in a cold weather climate area again! I love owning it and driving it. It has tranformed in many different ways over the years that i've had it. Purchased in 2003 with 46,000 miles on it and now it's at 215,000 almost 10 yrs later. Been through 2 accidents and a flood. Motor swap upgrade to a 2.5 hybrid. Lots of little mods here and there. I will never sell it! I may end up with another non-subaru car in the future, but Subaru til death for sure as whatever i do get will be parked next to the WRX in my garage when i'm old and decrepped-er! Also...just recently acquired another Subie with a friend to make the total count 2 now. 2.0/2.5L WRXTi hybrid and a 3.3L swapped RSVX FTW!!
I just had to get rid of my 2001 Prelude after driving it for one winter. I had originally purchased a 1984 Toyota Landcruiser for winter driving, but between the 8 miles a gallon and constant small repair jobs, it was too much of a pain in the ass. I always wanted a WRX, so eventually I sold both of them and bought one. Perfect fit.
As someone said already, I couldn't afford a CTS-V yet. But I'll probably keep it around now even when I pick up a V next year or the year after, or some sort of subaru at least for really snowy days. Otherwise, I've always driven RWD vehicles, and if you know how to drive, RWD isn't bad at all in snow.
this actually made me LOL, i was finanly able to afford a nice car that i could mod. i saved my pennies and bought one, then broke it, then sold it now im saving my pennies again for the new one thats coming!
