I feel that an automatic transmition takes away from the driving experience. I like having the mechanical control over the car. The first thing I do when I walk up to a nice car is look into the window to see if it is a manual. If I see that it is an automatic I tend to look at the car a bit different.
boring, not fun, don't feel the love/connection with the car, so i have an excuse to "why didn't you answer my call", so i won't text/talk(though I can), too look cool, too keep my right hand busy, to keep my left foot busy, to be able to shift when I want to, not lazy, old school, don't want other people or my sisters/parents to drive it, push start, sound when you are in reverse, drive safer and be alert and use my brain(I'm in 1st gear, I gots to shift now), so my brake light want go out as quick, to beat most of the cars off the line when the light turns green, I just hate it(automatic trans) and my #1 reason: To make my passengers head move forward then back again when I shift(too funny) Oh, and cuz I have an exhaust on it and don't want it to sound gay/stupid as u hear it shift it's self like some automatic slow as honda with an loud as exhaust. Wack or as Dean would say, "Fail" So y didn't you buy a manual Prius? too lazy to shift? and don't say they didn't make one either
LMAO! The Prius only comes in an Auto CVT transmission. Lazy, maybe...........I only do the minimal of what's necessary to get the job done. I was really hoping you'd reconsider the race with my Prius and you can show me the disadvantages of an automatic
Because the "race" autos are put of my price range. However, growing up with a stick I think I'll always drive one. In my 16 years of driving cars I have owned one auto and hated it. Even my $500 cars were fun to drive because they were manuals. Growing up with dirt bikes and quads made me love the control that a manual offers.
My current car doesn't come with an automatic so it wasn't an option. That being said, with the advent of the modern automatics, especially in the 7+ speed varieties as well as the sequential manual boxes I would say that the manual transmission as we know it probably won't be around much longer. Given the choice, I'd prefer an SMG versus a traditional manual for the versatility and adjustability that it offers. Having an automatic mode for sitting in traffic combined with the ability to adjust the shift modes and speeds and be able to execute those shifts far faster and far smoother than humanly possible is very appealing. Emotionally, I'll always love a 3 pedal setup. Logically, they're going the way of the dinosaur.
Why we did? Crappy cross city commute is one reason. Another one is with a level 10 2800rpm stall ...it can be really fun from a dig. Lastly, i could always use the trans in manual mode on our LGT.
It's just more fun. I agree, that you feel like you know your car better/have a better connection with its mechanics. It's hard to imagine going back to an automatic... Although rush hour traffic does, from time to time, does make me wish I had a second vehicle with an auto...
My next car will be an auto (non subaru), Subaru autos (save for the 5eat) have been very VERY ignorant, and they shift in a geological rate.
Because anything less than three pedals is commuting, not driving. Having full control over what the transmission is doing why and when is a more connected and immersive experience during the type of driving I do all day, even if I am practically guaranteed to be less efficient/effective than a well designed/engineered auto.
^Agree, Real drivers drive a standard stick-shift, not automatics, cvt's or even paddle- shifters. Paddle shift, what r we playing a video game Not manual trans, not interested, Ok, maybe for a few days then I'll be bored and want my manual trans back
Ehh, that's not really what I was saying. If I had regular track time I might end up preferring a really nice auto. Getting myself to work/daycare/grocery store/etc? Definitely a lot more interesting/enjoyable with a stick.
I'm of the opposite mindset. I want an auto in my commuter. A straight auto where all I do is press the go pedal to go, the stop pedal to stop, and move the round thing to turn. Driving with a set destination is just too much of a chore for my lazy ass. I would happily trade my car in for a newer pdk version. The only reason I didn't get an auto in my toy car is bc outside of a gtr, I couldn't afford one that I liked. There are some fun old school techniques that are lost like clutch kicking, but really your hands, feet, and timing are freed up so much that you can use a different technique in those situations anyway.
LOL, because he has never watched Rally, F1 or any other motorsport out there where the cars have big bank accounts. Stick shifts are the poor man's race option. I love my manual and would have a hard time changing. But your comment is so far from the truth it isn't even funny.
So people who have: Enzos veyrons F430s 458s aventadors and countless other supercars Aren't real drivers driving REAL cars? What a lump of sh*t that is.
I have the standard AT in my Forester and Tacoma, a standard MT in the 240sx, a special AT CVT in the Prius and just a little more special AT in the Evo X....granted I don't know how to fully utilize them, but I can imagine how much fun they would be had I did lol
Don't see what was so offensive or got you going but I'm out of here Had a great 5 months here Treat your fellow members better next time If I offended you, got you upset or angry in anyway or said something you don't agree with. I'm Sorry I know I'm not the brightest person, driven all the cars, have seen or done everything there is in the world but damn. Guess I just don't fit in here as I'm to retarded. Thank You, I know I am, Always will be Chong, whenever you want to race(go-karts) call me Will miss some of you guys and some upcoming events My IQ just isn't high enough to be here
I personally am not calling you dumb or asking anyone to leave. Just educating you about your comment. You'll need thicker skin if you plan to hang out on any car forums. You mean infected?
Nobody is going to stop you if you want to take your ball and go home. Another option is to work with the cues you've been given and stop projecting yourself like a stereotypical ricer. Your call. It could be that you're just trying to crack jokes and it's not translating. I got a completely different impression off of you in person than what you throw out on the forums. Considerably more mellow. I think you'd do just fine if you eased up on the F&F bit. Wrong crowd for that sort of thing.
