http://www.nbc4.tv/news/8881193/detail.html Found this over on the Forester forums, it's not surprising, just more reason for me to never go to one of those places.
True, most of the time Man, your sig is reminding me of silke I usually try to do all the work myself, but occasionally I'll take my car to the local dealership - very nice people and good prices too!
once so far in almost 18mths of business did we do that... let me explain... My tech was working on the car... jobs got added to ticket.. parts arrived.. he did the work that was originally sold before some other stuff got added... car drove out... I walk out to chat with him and see all new parts sitting on MY toolbox not HIS... I ask him.. he was like.. I wasnt told we were doing that... Called customer back and told them what happened.. they came back and we gave them a disvount for their inconvenience... If I knew my guys intentionally ripped off customers... they would be on their arses in the parking lot with my foot so far up it and charges of theft following on my boot heels... My opinion and what I tell my guys constantly.... there is enough cars out there with crap that is broke that they dont have to sell what isnt needed... the unfortunate thing about that is there are probably great Jiffy Lubes out there and people working in them who suffer because of a few... same with dealerships....
I like going to your shop, because i like what i see. Your a hard working owner. and having the guy who signs the checks actually out on the floor, overlooking the employes and the work getting done makes me feel very comfortable with letting you and your guys work on my car. although what makes me feel the most comfortable, is that i can go out and watch what's being done to my car and actually talk to the tech doing it. So many times i've seen the kick back owner/manager in his office playing solitare, not giving a **** to what's going on out in the shop. he doesn't care that the work gets done, and done right. he just cares that the money's coming in and the workers are giving people enough of an illusion that their cars are being fixed to keep them from complaining.
thanks SHane.... though usually all I do is sit in my office upstairs and look at this forum.. ha ha ha but thats the luxury of having good honest guys working for you who take pride in their work... Usually we dont let customers stand right there and watch.. it annoys the tech as it is distracting... like if you are reading a paper and someone reads over your shoulder same thing... but I do like to allow our customers to question ANYTHING to make sure what they are getting is what they pay for and are happy with the service... I dont aim for 100% satisfaction but 100% effort in trying... anyhooo for example... I did brakes on 02blubru's WRX... they started making noise... I looked at them.. PERFECT.... cleaned it up.. drove it... still noise... put it on lift... cleaned again and regreased contact spots.... still noise... put it on the lift AGAIN.... this time.. slightly sanded / grinded the tabs where they occasionally put the coating on too thick... you guessed it STILL NOISE... by this time we were wondering if it was the brakes at all.... front left wheel... anyways so we put it on the lift again... I threw in the towel and said lets resurface the rotors lightly.... well after seeing they were warped and glazed (yeah glazed which happens as soon as you brake) and put them back on... what do you know..... FIXED..... ha ha ha 3 hours of my time when most people would have shipped him after the first inspection... ps..... 02blubru... take it easy on those brakes.. ha ha ha and I dont sit in my office watching all the money coming in not giving a crap... ha ha ha cause I definitely dont have any money coming in (I do give a crap though)... or I would be driving an STi instead.. ha ha ha
Nate, I am glad to here there are some really great and honest people like yourself around. I only wish your shop was a little bit closer.
i worked at a jiffy lube for almost a year.....and it's basically how you guys said it. they dont' care about the customer, all they care about is making money......they expect an oil change in 7mins.....skip anything if you have to....just get it done in 7min or get yelled at for being too slow. i've seen my manager rip people off, sell things not needed.....it sucked...so i quit.
I know that there are good small shops out there. I used to go to one that I trusted down in FL. It was a small independent place, and the people were always nice, never tried to upsell me anything, and noticed a CV Boot that was torn that the dealership missed (I promptly changed dealerships). It's nice to know that there are good honest people out there, and in the long haul, it'll keep you in business.
^^Good people, helping good people...Denny Hecker, *BS* Never buy a car from Hecker...They pride themselves with people who have bad credit. Kill you in Interest and Full retail on cars...Because they know you need a car and they make you feel no one else will help you. Sorry I didn't mean to change the topic...I just couldn't resist!
It's all about going to someone like Duffy's or Nokomis Auto who'll treat you fair with good pricing and is honest. They are some of the only people who have told me not to have something done because I didn't need it after I told them I wanted them to do it. They turned down making extra money. The only problem is waiting in line forever cause of the line of people waiting to be helped by them.
NO SH1T! I have seen 3 Denny Hecker commercials on TV and I can tell, just by looking at the guy and hearing the way he talks, that he is a sheisty d-bag car salesman. I wouldn't step foot on a Denny Hecker auto lot for any reason except to cause trouble for some un-witting d-bag salesperson. And you, Ray, know exactly the type I'm talking about...the ones that rush out to the young customers on the lot, salivating at the chance to fark them in their inexperienced holes and have them leave the lot in financial ruin with a smile of ignorant bliss on their face. BTW, if anyone here is looking for a car (that isn't a subaru, because we have lots of honest Subaru dealers in the club here) and need someone to go with and make sure you don't get screwed, feel free to call me up. I have no problem going and ruining some salesman's day. I've done it a couple of times for a few friends and I know ALL the salesmen tricks.
Thanks for ruining my Day! I orderd you a LGT all loaded up and had all the Altima trade appraisal written up and what do you do!?! I'll pass...pzzz, never normal since...I had to go to therapy once a week and still do, because of a CA guy with an 04 WRX walked in...haha jk. So you know all the Salesmen tricks? hmmm...I wish I knew a single one, maybe I can use it. LOL
