I've seen some really good ones too where it shows how an unbelted passenger can also kill people in the car who are belted in. I can't emphasize how important they are in an impact. Yes, I know that there are stories of guys who roll vehicles and get ejected because they weren't belted in and survived but those are very much the exception and not the rule.
I never really understood why people don't wear them. I have never found a seat belt to be too restricting or bothersome. It takes you only an extra 2 seconds to buckle up and go. What makes it difficult to do?
Even better: http://www.wreckedexotics.com/enzo/enzo_20060809_006.shtml The guy wrote about his Enzo for the mags and let them test it. He decided to do a high speed charity rally and make a run without a course pre-drive, AND he decided to make time in the corners and not just on the straights. He survived, but only after he stopped breathing when his helmet strap choked off his air supply. CPR by a paramedic saved his life.
A big +1 for seat belts. I havn't had any bad accidents my self but like i put on here before when there was that bad WRX crash last year, they will more then likely save your life. Sure you may live through a crash without it like by friend but he cant walk anymore so the seat belt would have been a better choice. Besides, its a hell of alot cheaper then a seat belt ticket.
I feel naked without a seatbelt on. My dad instilled in me at a young age that driving/riding without a seatbelt is the dumbest thing you can do. "Put your seatbelt on. Windsheilds are expensive, especially when you fly through them."
My dad does auto glass for a living... there's the "red pavement" movies, and then there's actually seeing it in person. Nothing quite like picking hair out of a windshield that has a perfect face print of whichever unlucky/stupid SOB smashed into it.
The world is overpopulated, so I'm ok with people not using seat belts. Not in the car I'm in though.
LOL, now that you put it that way. Maybe we should reverse the "walk" and "don't walk" signs untill the population is back under control?
Until I owned a subaru, I was always scared of seatbelts. I'm short, so if there was a violent accident, the belt would NOT save me. I'd lose my head. Most seatbelts rested right on my neck because the seat wouldn't raise. I still wore them, though. This car's adjustable seatbelt height is excellent, i can set it for my shoulders and it's comfortable. Now I don't feel scared wearing them anymore.
my gf' aunt drives without a seat belt. She said she got in an accident like 30 years ago. The roof of the car crushed down and becuase she was not wearing a belt she did not get squished. But she just can't understand that now cars are designed in a way that you have to wear a belt to survive.
Cars are designed to withstand a certain amount of damage without crushing a person in the passenger compartment. Seatbelts were designed to keep a person from leaving the passenger compartment in the event of an accident.
This one is a repost...but fits the topic well. http://youtube.com/watch?v=aSjHI2XSkdE&feature=related
http://youtube.com/watch?v=uNSS7GSJOgs&feature=related That would be sick to look under that car that hit the person.
