I've searched the various threads here on wheel and tire fitment but still need some advice. I'm looking at buying SSR GT7-H 18x8 +51 offset with BFG KDW2 235/40/18 (25.4 diameter) for my '05 STI. I'm running stock suspension (not lowered or anything) and don't want to have any rubbing issues or do any fender rolling to make it work. Anyone know for sure if this setup will clear? --DSV
You should be fine. Especially since I'm guessing you are picking these up from Tirerack.com. If they list them for your car, they probably fit fine. Especially on a stock suspension.
Yeah, I'm probably going thru TireRack. The guy I talked to there said they'll guarantee a 35 profile tire to fit on an 18" rim (245/35, 255/35, etc) but not a 40, so that was my main concern especially with the diameter being 7 inches more than stock (25.4 vs. 24.9). He said if I go with a non-guaranteed size (I.e 235/40) and they don't fit, I gotta pick up the $85 shipping both ways plus $60 restocking fee to return them, so just want to avoid getting punched in the wallet for simply trying on new shoes. --DSV
http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp?submit=yes&vehicle=yes You'd be better off with a 235/40/18 IMO. The circumference is closer to the stock size. Plus, you'll gain some sidewall height to absorb the bumps here.
Plenty of guys (including myself) run 245/45/17 for autox, which is basically the same diameter as your 235/40/18s. You'll be fine.
My concern is the offset.... +51. I don't have enough experience with wheel fitting to know, but I am sure someone does; just making sure the question is asked.
Update: I got the wheels and have been running them for a couple weeks now. No rubbing or any other issues. --DSV
None yet - don't have a digital camera. Might be able to get some taken in the next couple weeks. --DSV
