Hey guys! I currently have a 2.1 stroker built by NF performance but I'm looking to make more power. Somewhere in the 450-500 range. So I guess my main question would be, should I stay with a 2.0 or upgrade to a 2.5? I was considering a hybrid but I've heard mixed reviews. Any and all information will be appreciated. Thank you!

Just finished my 6spd swap from an 06. No idea on whp as it was street tuned. And sounds good I'll shoot fuji a message.

I think idget was asking if your hp goal was at the crank or whp :)

What parts are in your current engine (crank/rods/pistons/etc)?

If your 2.1 stroker is still healthy I don't see why you would switch it. You can make good power on a built 2.1 just a little less torque down low. If you do a hybrid you should really have your combustion chambers matched to the 2.5. You can buy the hybrid pistons to keep the compression ratio right without doing the head work but you still have sharp corners in the chamber which can increase likelihood of knock. Doesn't matter so much if you are going E85 though.

Well, the 2.1 I have has STI rods heat treated STI crank, Manley stroker pistons, stock cams and GSC springs/valves/retainers. I plan on going e85 before winter along with speed density. Currently at 20psi on an 18g internally gated kinugawa turbo I guess, I'm not sure as to what this engine is capable of. It has about 45k on it.

Just get a bigger turbo and turn up tha boosts see how far it'll take you, build when it breaks.

Bigger turbo would net you more power and will probably be quite a bit more affordable than building a hybrid.

Remember that if you go hybrid and are looking for big powah, you better build the hybrid with stout internals. Go big or go home!

What would you want for the shortblock if you decide to hybrid it?

Also, quit bull****tin' and just do a 3.3L swap with twin turbos and/or supercharger sun!! Talk about torque monster

Sweet jesus! Well what I was looking at doing is while my car sleeps over winter I was going to start my second engine build, that way when my first one goes Illl have another with (hopefully) higher power capabilities. I have no idea what my 2.1 is capable of. I feel like I would need cams to go much farther being that it has just stock wrx cams. But i may be wrong. I have a buddy selling a rotated kit for 1200 that I'll end up buying off of him when I collect my money.

    I'm just sayin...

    I'm being serious about the 3.3L! 3.3L with a harness merge and a twin turbo setup(think VF39's/48's) and you'd be golden...on 93 octane. :)

A supercharger would probably be a cheaper route, and still alot of fun! The 3.3L is a closed deck motor built strong like bull.

Plus, we need something fresh to oogle over! 2.5's are a dime a dozen! Lol

Whaddya mean? You're going to build a 2.5L, a 3.3L wouldn't cost any more than that I wouldn't think. You could probably do a 3.3L block and wiring harness for $1k. Add $4k for Fobia to set you up on the twin turbo setup and viola!

What's your budget for the 2.5L hybrid build?

Well I haven't decided. I'm still stuck on which engine I should use. 2.5,2.0, hybrid etc. Still reviewing my options so I don't jump into something I'd regret.

Well at this point, Nuke and Fuji have pushed enough 2.1L's like yours that they should have a good idea of what the block is capable of.

2.5L is out of the question unless you want to do a harness swap.

2.0L really wouldn't make sense as you'll be going backwards from the 2.1L.

So your options are a built hybrid or 3.3L(which will require a harness merge). Or I suppose that you could do a hybrid 2.7L which is very much like what you have now with the 2.1L(by that i mean a stroker build).<wouldn't require a harness merge either if it utilizes 2.0L heads.

Yes, and you are the best guy to share opinions on builds in here as you are becoming quite the build guru.

So, for my own curiosity, how do you do a 2.5L swap into a 2.0L car without using 2.0L heads?

    Here you go:

    http://elementtuning.com/technical/ej25_install.htm

The main thing you need is the cam sensor bracket:

    http://www.rallysportdirect.com/sho...ubaru-for-mounting-cam-angle-on-front-of-head

The rest is pretty straight forward. The whole longblock swaps in, reuse the WRX intake manifold and throttle body. I just ran with the AVCS cams and pulleys installed but not active.
