i got an impreza coupe with some new all seasons on it for $700. it is rusty but runs real well. I think it needs a rear passenger bearing and probably a battery by now too.
To your clever point, envision a completely stripped down brand new Impreza..."Winter Beater Edition" for those that want to beat winter with that new car smell!
This decal available here http://www.stickerbtchdecals.com/products/subaru, if you want to make it official!
how mechanically inclined are you and how willing to tackle a project? I have a ford probe on winter tires with a coolant leak somewhere on the passenger's side of the engine.
I have a great Winter car that's available - 2001 Audi A4 Avant (wagon), Quattro all wheel drive, 1.8 Turbo, 5 speed manual, 256k miles, clean and reliable with heated seats. 2 sets of wheels - 1 set has Nokian Hakkapeliitta Snow Tires. $3,000 - "cheap" is a relative term. It's silver with black interior. Selling because I bought my first Subaru.
97 obs with a 2.2?! That's the definition of winter beater I do believe. Bullet proof motor too. Do that one.
