    LOL...

You people can have your secrets, they can't stay that way forever. Come spring you'll have to show us all the goods. I would like to work on checking/fixing my fuel trims...so if anyone has one of those handy OBDII loggers I could borrow, let me know.

Joel, give me a call. I will let ya borrow my scan tool cable and software if ya want. It just shows obd-II stuff, so I'm not to sure about fuel trims and such. I will dig into it a bit and see whats in there.

Even generic OBDII will give a LTFT (long trem fuel trim) and STFT (short term fuel trim).

Yep, it is in there. I have never looked for the fuel trim stuff, so I wasn't quite sure if it was there or not. Let me know. I can burn the software to disk and let ya borrow the cable if you want.

Well, I am spending a little time with the RS... I have a new single stage brake booster/cylinder sitting in the garage, waiting to go in. I will have new, custom valved/sprung, JIC FLT2A-RS coilovers in before spring. Let's see, what else... Hmmm, if taxes are nice to me this year I may have a 6psi turbo running on it as well, sometime early this summer. Todd, when you getting that dyno in? }:) Oh, I have to replace my belt, too, it started to shred last time I drove it. Well, not too much interesting for most of you in your WRXs, but just wait until you see me out at the track!

I'm just waiting on a dyno, though I may show up to the shop to get that intake taken care of. I may have posted some secret information on my next mod at some other forum...

Well, Russ and I got my fuel trims in order (at least at idle). I threw a CEL not even two blocks from his house, but by the time I got to Autozone in St Paul it cleared itself and their scanner showed no codes.

It's been a long time since I reset my ECU, so I don't remember the relearning process. The car is surging a bit under boost...no knock at least. I was fiddling with my timing in the 3000-3500 range but I didn't change anything too drastically. Maybe everything will smooth out in a day or two once the car figures out an IAM to settle on.

Try doing the Vishnu reset (sorry don't remember the specifics), but that is supposed to get the ecu back to its highest correction factor on the low det map. If I find it I will post it.

Vishnu Reset(from what I can recall off the top of my head): After reconnecting the negative terminal, get car in 3rd gear and hold boost at 7psi for ~10 secs.

Well I didn't need to do the Vishnu reset, I just needed to slap myself around a little. Somehow I contrived a way to fill a couple cells in my fuel map with 4.4 when it should be -4.4 (haha)...so it was outrageously rich in that spot.

    All better now.)

woops. I guess with the vishnu reset it will put you in the low det map with the timing maxed (no retard anywhere). I will have to look for it on nasioc.

So you guys can call me lame but I shaved my back hatch of all emblems and put on a new mesh grille in the front. No power mods though been broke and busy with other things. (i.e. caring 4 pregnant wife and now baby!) :D I'm going to take off my crappy tint job this spring and put on lighter, prob 50% all around. I think it looks nicer. Not sure yet but the thought of doing an engine swap is upon me right now. :)

<blockquote id="quote"><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id="quote">quote:<hr height="1" noshade id="quote">ust a little trick that has been shown to accelerate the factory ECU's ignition timing learning process.

Background: There is something called "Ignition Advance Multiplier". It represents, by some complicated algorithm, the average learned positive knock correction applied to the ignition maps. It's represented in 1/8th degrees increments. 1 being the lowest and 16 being the highest (1/8 to 2 degrees in absolute terms).

The "happier" (knock free) the car is, the higher the number will be. Conversely, the lower it is, the more knock prone it is. This number, after ECU reset ore ECU swap defaults to 8 and usually creeps up to 16 (if well mapped) through normal driving. Depending on driving characteristics, this can happen within a few hours or a few weeks. Well, here's a way to make it happen in about 5 seconds ....

First: With the car fully warmed up, reset the ECU. This can be done by killing power the ECU or by simply pulling off the neg. battery terminal and pressing the brake pedal for a couple of seconds.

Second: Drive to a nice open road without traffic. Don't go on boost until you get there. Put the car into gear (3rd gear works the best) bring the revs up to 2600rpm. Push the go pedal down slightly so boost stays right around 2-4psi. You will need to MAINTAIN 2500rpm and 2-5psi for approx 5 seconds. You can do this by left-foot braking gently as to prevent acceleration. During these few seconds, the advance multiplier (which you can't see so you'll have to trust me) will go from 8, to 12 and then to 16. Works like a charm. And on our reflashed ECU, is worth an immediate 10-20 horsepower

In an attempt to save a lot of dyno time between reflashes (when the advance multiplier resets itself), I do this little trick after every reflash. In a typical dyno session, it's not unusual to reflash the same car up to 5 times. On the dyno, all I need to do is tell the dyno to hold revs to 2600rpm. Then I just lay on the throttle until I see a few psi of boost... Bingo!

Warning: This little trick artificially speeds up the learning process. This is only a good thing if the re-mapped ECU is mapped properly. If there are trouble-spots where knock is present, this trick will make it even more present. So be careful!

    Cheers,
    shiv

I'm just realizing the direction this could be taking...so Matt, if you end up not using the injectors I gave you, I'm not really interested in taking them back in a modified state. So if you try to turn them into 700cc's and screw it up, that isn't free. :D

No mods for me this winter but when Spring time comes... I'm setting myself for some suspension tunning, as Matt and I have discussed earlier. Gonna find some time to do an oil catch can as well... been talking about it but haven't got the time to get with any of you guys for this.

No power mods for me for another year. I'm gonna wait and see what works and doesn't work before I jump into the power wagon.

I don't consider adding gauges as mod... as I just got my Defi pod and gauges ordered. Once it gets here... I'll need Matt, Russ or someone whose had experience in this field to help me out with the installation. Payment will be pizza and beer... unless we hit up Perkins or Culvers, etc...

I did a cheap mod this past weekend... I got an oil catch can, with Matt and John's help that is. Thanks guys!

I can't wait till Spring so I can get the other project underway. Beside... I'm still looking for a daily driver so I can park this one and start taking things apart... like someone on this board, LOL!

Matt... You didn't hear that from me :D Maybe you and Russ can work out something about making money from your design.

Matt, check your schedule and see if you'll be available in the late morning. I'd like to swing by to pick up the valves we bought from Home Depot and return it. I'm going to exchange it for other parts to make an Oil Catch Can for my brother's EVO and WRX.

I'm in no real hurry now. Once it gets closer to spring time I will probably do it. I just have to get some of my small projects going so once it warms up I can work on the big stuff.
