    Hello.

We usually do this as an impromptu thing. What you are discussing is typically illegal, and can earn you some fines and other such crap. Which is why we have found over the years that it is best to keep it de-centralized and spur of the moment. By organizing a 'meet' and giving a location and a time, you are setting yourself up for failure. This thread will be closed and locked, or possibly merged with the others, but since you've posted a time, date and location, it will likely just be deleted.

if it is an impromptu thing, how do you organize everyone meeting up? im not trying to get in trouble here, just posting if my fellow subie guys are interested (and i know MANY are)... what we do is "safe", there are rules. so far, only 2 cars in the ditch and that was driver error (obviously).

Usually we meet at Firestone. Then from there we decide where we'll go for mayhem. Law enforcement people browse car forums. They see "We are having a meet tonight where we are going to drive like idiots in a parking lot" and then there is listed a date, a time, and a location. Then law enforcement shows up, tickets everyone, and sends them home to look at their bank account info to see how they are going to pay the fine.

This has nothing to do with 'safe'...as far as I'm concerned, you pay to play, if you bust your car up in a snow covered parking lot, that's your dime...and what you do in your car, and what level of personal and property risks you decide to take with it is your business. The concern is that you are advertising the date, time and location of illegal activity on a public forum. Parking lot mayhem is illegal, and the police WILL ticket you. You can preach to them all you want about "i was just practicing driving on snow to be a safer driver" or "hey, at least we aren't doing it where innocent bystanders can get hurt" but the fact remains, it is illegal and you WILL be ticketed for it.

Yes, we all do it, yes we know it is illegal, but it is flat out boneheaded and stupid to post on a publicly viewed forum exactly when and where you intend to do this, and then have a list of names of everyone that plans to attend. That is why alot of us take issue with Skarecrow and his self-percieved ownership of "Shenanigans" or whatever, because the second you centralize it and plan it in public, you set everyone up for failure.

We've always simply met at the Firestone lot on Uni. Once we all arrive, we typically figure out where we want to rip up a parking lot and go, then meet back at FS if we get split up and do it again. It has worked out fantastic in the last 4 years that I've been involved. I've been 'caught' once, and I was wearing fake reindeer antlers and holding a tow rope and a disc sled, the cop simply laughed at me and told me to go home. Otherwise, in 4 years of snow mayhem, I've only had one problem with the authorities. And if you know anything about me, snow mayhem is my top priority when it starts falling, to the point that I coded a front page weather report on the old MNSubaru site so we could keep watch on the weather radar from the MNSubaru page. We just want everyone to have a good time and not set themselves up for trouble.

Also, planning in advance for snow is, and has always been complete and utter fail. It's happened dozens of times, where the report says "4-6 inches" and we get nothing but a light dusting. Planning around potential weather is pointless. In the past, the best thing to do was watch the Firestone thread to see what people out west were saying about the snow storm. Usually they can tell you before it even hits the cities how good or bad the snow will be. And typically, when it starts falling in the Twin Cities, the guys out west will have been dealing with it for about an hour already, so they can tell you what your snow will look like in an hour...if it will be suitable for driving or a complete waste of your time.

Because typically everyone that plans on going either posts up in the Firestone thread or the Official Snowed Lot thread saying they plan on going downtown for fun. If it is mega snowing or lots of snow is expected, post up in the Firestone thread asking if anyone is going if someone hasn't already. That's the easiest way.
