It looks like it might be "warmer" this weekend, I might put my winter on but I dont know if its to early or not yet. Anybody else have them on yet? I just dont think the roads are cold enough yet to make the switch so that is why im debating doing it for a few more weeks
I did mine yesterday. I think air temp is a very important factor as well (not just road temp). When the ave. daytime high is ~40-45 seems to be the recommended point to make the change. If I had the space and jack to do it myself, I might have waited a bit longer, but I wanted to beat the insanity that will be Discount Tire when the first snow falls.
Temps are low enough for me. Will have them in within a week. No need to take a chance driving in snow with the summers on, did that last year and it was bad news!
This is the nice thing about having a summer and winter car. When it gets cool like this I start to prep the winter car. If there is a nice day I simply take the othe car out that has the summers on it. Sill say the all seasons I have on my brz do not like temps under 40 they loose grip quite easy.
I do on long freeway drives. With my large alum. Aftermarket raid. And and running e85 my car has a hard time maintaining operating temp.
It sure did get chilly, but once we got those windbreaks up and that fire goin, it wsa pleasant enough! The winter car is on all seasons, but it will get winter tires when i can afford them. I'm still a little behind on stuff after the govt. shutdown.
You mean once I drank enough jungle juice it was plesant enough lmao. I have to make up for that **** show next year.
All seasons will get me around until the snow is actual on the ground. The Winter bites are a few weeks away!!!!!
I usually do mine after Turkey day so I can get some exercise and burn off that heavy meal and save myself from the Black Friday nonsense. I can't wait to start street racing once we get some snow on the ground. My Prius will pull away from these fools!!!!
Actually just took my summer tires to the basement and bagged them last night. Over night temps are getting low and I don't want the summer tires to freeze and ruin their operability...they are also only 140 tread wear rating lol. The stock wheels with all seasons are back on the sti, and I will be prepping for storage soon Saabaru is still rocking the old all seasons...need to buy some snow tires soon!
My ST43 pads will be replaced with factory street brake pads along with the winter tires and a nice piece of brown cardboard inserted in front of the radiator. Can't wait to start driving around the neighborhood!
I take it one step further, spray it black and then NeverWet to keep it from distortion kinda like some of my friends. lol
I'm holding out a little longer to put them on. Cold in the mornings and overnight, but the last few days have been warmer during the day.
Yeah, I think I'm with you there. My goal was to keep summers on until Nov. I just might barely make it
Washed and waxed them over the weekend and put them on today. It is just to cold out in the morning for the wide summer tires. And I just don't have the extra time to worry about swapping out tires, just get it done while I have a chance. Russ
Not time for me yet, but I have ****ty all seasons on the beater so I'll go for another couple weeks.
Threw on the stock wheels with some Continental Extreme Winter Contacts. We'll see how these compare to the previous set of Blizzaks.
Got my winter wheels/tires put on last night. Forgot how different she looks with stock wheels! Felt much more confident driving in the cold this morning because I wasn't riding on hockey pucks anymore. Coupon for free tire rotation from Midas down the street from my house was convenient.
Going to try these Continental DWS tires that came on my car, for now. I've used Blizzaks on every one of my cars for the last 5 years or so, and I probably will end up going down that route again. I promised the wife I'd give these a shot, though
I had Blizzak WS70's on my STI (first set of snow tires I ever drove or rode on) and thought they were great in the snow; however I did notice a bit of "floaty" handling on dry pavement...I thought that was a common side affect of snow tires. I then rode in Curran's 2.5RS with the Extreme Winter Contacts and I was amazed at the dry pavement handling AND snow traction. Needless to say, I'm planning on getting the Extreme Winter Contacts for the saabaru. I actually rocked the DWS's on my first saabaru year round (and for all things snow, track, dry, and rain related). I think they were better than most all seasons in the snow, but a true snow tire will obviously be better. I still think the DWS's have some of the most flimsy, worthless sidewalls out there (at least on the 16's).
I know that squirmy feeling you are talking about on dry pavement. I have general altimax arctics and I get the same floatysteering right when you start to turn. I am sure the EWC's are better on the dry but are they actually as good in the snow or ice? I definitely dont know the answer but I always attributed the squirminess to the heavy siping doing its job and I figured it was an unavoidable tradeoff for better snow/ice traction. Has anyone driven both?
