I was planning on swapping a vehicle, but ran across a 1999 Forester already done. Unfortunately it was/is in need of some wiring help. It *was* a running and driving swapped vehicle until it developed a misfire. Thinking it was a wiring issue the , the owner started disconnecting wires at the SVX ecu, before finally realizing it was actually just a bad coil. That is essentially where it sits now.... The swap appears to have been done following this thread. http://www.rs25.com/forums/f145/t160915-eg33-96-outback-sport-vlog.html The two ECUs are running in parallel, but with all original wiring retained in case anyone ever wanted to swap back (I don't know why you would bother....) This is the pinout guide that is being used along with the 99 Forester pinout information. I am looking for someone who knows wiring to advise me or possibly even help in a hands on capacity. I'm willing to pay in cash money, lunch, returned favor, Let you flog the car around, whatever. Most things are still hooked up as they were. He only unhooked 5-7 wires. I have traced and matched on diagrams and it looks like most of the wires are in the correct spot (self shut-off and O2s were never used. I have questions on a few others). At the moment I don't believe the fuel pump is coming on, though it works with direct power and I don't believe it is getting spark. I'm hoping someone with more experience can make sense of it for me. Otherwise I'm afraid I might have to start fresh on the wiring, go megasquirt, or something else much harder.
If nobody steps up to help you out and you really don't feel 100% confident doing it yourself, you may want to check out Schelen Gray Auto & Electric off of Snelling. They're wizards with electrical stuff.
Cool. Thanks for the heads up. I did have someone (from MN....) give me a bit of advice on RS25, but I haven't yet had a chance to try his suggestions. I've been wondering about potential shop options. I wasn't aware of anyone local who did this sort of work. I don't want to sink a ton of money in to the car, but I would rather pay a bit and get it functional than pull my hair out for months if I can't do it myself. I wonder if anybody knows the story on Numbchux conversions. He did EG33 harness merges in Duluth. I didn't get an answer back from him. Thought it might be a good resource....
Lol is it sad that the first time I read your message I thought you were talking about a harness marriage (merge)
It's true. Married in Alaska a couple weeks ago, big reception coming up in a couple weeks. Truth is, I haven't been doing almost any major merges since I quit delivering pizzas about 3 years ago. OP. I'll shoot you a message the next time I'm in the cities. I might be able to come take a look.
Wow, well that seems like a pretty great reason to be off the radar. If you get a chance to swing by or even consult by PM, email, phone, text, etc... that would be great. I managed to get a few minutes to fiddle with it last night. I have confirmed, at least, that the injectors are firing so that is one less thing to worry about.
A bit of an update. I haven't heard back from Chux or J.Rex so I decided to give Shelen a call. They are a week out for work and haven't done anything quite like this, but think they can probably tackle it. I really don't want to dig in to it any further without help so unless I hear back from either of our forum gurus I am probably going to take it to Schelen next Wednesday.
I just noticed your message...sorry. If you're on any sort of time crunch, that's probably your best bet. I have no planned trip to the cities coming up (I don't think I have anything on Aug 22-23, so that could happen, but that's a big maybe).
It's all good. I figured you were busy. I'm not in a huge rush, but I did just put my Miata up for sale and am hoping to make this my new daily driver. If you are able could you call/text/pm me and we can discuss possibilities? I'm open to anything from phone consult to trailering it up to Duluth depending on what seems to make the most sense. Thanks. The more potential avenues I have the better.
