This law passed recently. It will go into effect after July 4th weekend 2010. I don't smoke, but I am for people's freedom to allow smoking in their establishment and not having government telling them what they can and cannot do. It's like prohibition all over again...

    same here.

Like you said, it's not about the smokers, it's about government telling restaurant owners how to run their business. Yes, they are already regulated in many ways, but this goes too far in my opinion.

    Now from a non-smoker's POV.

ITS ****ING DISGUSTING SMELLING YOUR CIGARETTES WHEN I'M EATING MY OVERPRICED FOOD.
I guarantee I like sex way more than you like smoking, and you don't see me goin nuts on my table across from you.

No kidding? Is it statewide then?

Also, I strongly agree that buisness owner should make that decision for themselves.

Exactly, if the business owner is going to make more money having a non-smoking establishment (to cater to the non-smoking crowd), they will make that choice for themselves.

Ok, no more fast food or anything like that ever, this includes chipotle and having a gym membership is manditory with refusal punishment by jail time.

Its disgusting seeing how fat people are.
I guarantee you I like sex more than you like eating and I cant have sex with disgusting fat bouncing around everywhere.

    Same logic. I win.

    yes, it's statewide.

It would be their (the owner's) choice to allow smoking. If you don't like it, don't give them your business. Find another establishment that's smoke free. If that owner really felt that allowing smoking was hurting his/her business, I'm sure they'd make a change.

In the end, it's totally up to you the consumer who you give your business to. It shouldn't be up to the government to continue to be a nanny for people who can't make "good" decisions on their own.

Fail. You eating tubs of lard next to me cannot make me fat.

Obviously, that's not the case. I can now give my business to anyone, and base it on their service and food, rather then how many smokers visit the restaurant. Yay! :)

No but you eating tubs of lard next to me, increases my healthcare costs which can then effect my quality of living and even my health with the same likely hood that you will develope cancer from second hand smoke. So...you fail and I win.

Well then we can go blame the doctors for charging so much in the first place. Also the pharmaceutical companies for making drugs that are so expensive.

I do think that too much of America is getting too stupid for their own good, however a nanny-government isn't fixing the problem; its only making people whine more.
