I saw a post on Lifehacker a while back about building a hackintosh for Snow Leopard for $800 and being a person interested in all things geek, I ordered the parts. A trip to India put the build off for a few weeks, but yesterday I was able to finally spend some time on it.

It wasn't very difficult with the hardware install, the SW gave me a few fits, but in the end I got it running at about 5AM today (jet lag can be useful ) and the machine absolutely SCREAMS!

It's a quad-core processor with 8GB RAM and a couple of 1TB drives, GeForce 9800 GTX+, dual 24" monitors. It loads apps about as fast as I can click on them, but the real test will be when I install Adobe Creative Suite 4 and see how those apps perform.

Very cool. I've read up on it but never given it a shot since I know OSX can be awful picky about devices and drivers. But when you build for it from the ground up, I assume it works pretty well. Sounds like a beast of a box for $800!

This was pretty much a guide with all of the hacking for the bootloader built in, so it worked pretty easily except for trying to build my installer using a Power PC instead of an Intel Mac.
