I've got the ol' VF39 in my WRX and am making about 242 whp. Would a big 16g satsify my craving or should I go bigger and add a FMIC?
well a big 16G is a healthy turbo, but by reviewing you past few posts and the toughts about trading up for more... i would say give yourself the headroom and get the 20 so you leave yourself more headroom.
I think a good question to ask yourself would be what kind of powerband do you want? That might influence your turbo choice as well.
well i cant stress it enough. lol, if you look over his last post he wants some more power, but it wont last. he'll want more power rapidly i am sure so there is really no reason to go big or go home at that point.
he should see how much money he could spend to get him where he needs he should start with teh 16g then go 18g and then 20g and see what one he likes best and sell the rest for really cheap to other guys on here...
I'm in the same boat and looking at the FP 16g evo3. A bit off topic, but I have a call into FP right now in regards to boost issues. Evidentially porting is a popluar option due to boost control issues. I was also looking at the 20g, but I researched the 16g and noticed a number of people pushing anywhere between 280-307whp, 265-285 torque. Tne higher numbers were with a fmic. Personally I'm going to be happy with a 16g for now and I'm taking into consideration that I will be running a stock tranny until this winter and was a bit concenred that a 20g would be pushing the limits of it's capabilities.
forget the turbo, get a flux capacitor. That should make aboud 1.8 jiggawatts of energy. I don't know how many horses are in a jiggawatt but I'll be there's a bunch.
yeah, no.....flux capacitors are such an 80's thing:roll: those came out right after the microwaves .....we have Quantum Slipstream Drive nowadays...argh...noobies
yes, joegansta will always be the fastest. dad's corvette is incredible however, i don't think slip stream drive will work with a stock tranny considerning it's 2,628,000 times the speed of light....but gansta boy couldn't keep up with that:eek3: sorry, back to topic. 20g + stock wrx tranny = trouble? serious question here folks I don't know what andrew has for a tranny though.
    Nate, seriously....First, that is No STOCK tranny....and why the heck do you have that picture? :eek3: Part of the private stash of asian porn? back to question- 20g + stock tranny?
Of all the things I wish I could un-see that picture was near the top of the list. I'm going to go flush out my brain pan with brake cleaner. uke: uke: uke:
Well Evan made some pretty good power with his 20g setup on RA gears (which are only marginally stronger than '04+ WRX gears) with no issues.
Scooby02 kinda is getting his 20g done. He still needs a big maf and a gm bcs to really let it go, but he has a good tune on it now. iirc fulll boost was right around 47-4800 (19psi). Russ
would a fp green = certain engine/tranny death? i may buy that setup that one of members has for sale.
Yeah, you're right. Here's some 20g action on one of the last fall runs. My car is running stage 2 and had the camera, his car in front
^^^^I don't know about that, fmic, 16g, and a good tune should give him alot more than 15whp... Although I have to admit, the price difference isn't that much when you consider the price of a 16evo3, pnp options. I think FP is selling them for around 975...it does make a 20g pretty attractive and only 200 bucks more.
The biggest thing between the 20g and a 16g is the 1000rpm lag in boost. There is definitly going be alot more power coming out of a 16g and a vf39. The big 16 flows almost 160cfm more than the vf39. On pump you can max out the flow of the vf39 and the 16g is just going. You want to build a race gas map, the 16g will easily push 25-26psi and the vf will kill itself. Russ
Anyone ever run a Blouch 16g evo3 or 20g? the 16g eveo3 with porting the hotside and ss line is $1042 whereas the 20g comes ported. combine the 20g with an ss line and it's just over $1100. also, their 20g comes with a 7cm turbine and IIRC the FP is 8cm. seems if that's the case the 20g is the way to go....
You can get the FP with either a 7 or 8cm hotside last time I checked. I asked Clark on his opinions of Blouch and he told me he wasn't too impressed with them.
Some people drive for years with pretty decent power on the stock tranny. Others with less power make it three months. Its all about how you treat it. Your clutch selection can play a part as well. Small gears really don't like unsprung race clutches.
That's exactly why I decided I want the 16g on my car. I want to spool at like 3500, not 4800-4900. Spooling that late wouldn't be too fun for my car I dont' think. Unfortunately, I am kinda running outta $$$ for my build, so i may have to settle for a TD04 for the winter
