I would like to introduce myself to the minnesota Subaru community. I recently purchased a 05 CGM STI. I love the car, it has been my dream car for a long time and let me tell you I couldn't be happier with the car.
not really yet, I have a K&N filter and short throw shifter. I'm planning on a COBB A/P and a Turbo back exhaust. Not sure yet what brand to go with on the exhaust, but I'm leaning towards COBB. I've heard a lot of good things about their stuff and I would like to keep the stock look of the pipe. Thanks for the welcome.
I will be selling my cobb ap soon, pm me if interested. I believe it will work on ur sti once I unmarry it from my car. (some more educated individuals should chime in on this for me). Welcome! I just bought my 04 STi and I love it, one of the funnest cars ive owned! I think i was considering this one in my search for a new car, like it!
From what I have read, the only way to unmarry the ap is to send it to COBB and they charge $300.00 to do it.
You can do it yourself as long as you have the car it's married to. Just walk through the steps and return that car to stock and unmarried and it can be used again on a different car. Basically can only be used on one car at a time.
I've only seen one other around here, and that was at North Town mall a few months ago. Nice car badbennyb. and thanks all for the warm welcome.
Congrats on the car! Regarding the AP, you can unmarry the unit from the ECU with a few easy clicks. Just make sure to get the correct unit that works with your car, if you go that route. However, I'd strongly suggest you do some reading and take a look at OpenECU if you are looking at your EM options.
Can't I still get an open source tune and have the map stored on the AP. I like the idea of the launch controll and the FFS options. My thoughts were that I would get the AP and go stage 1 and then next spring update the exhaust and go stage 2 and get the car pro tuned.
Nope, the Cobb software and open-source are not compatible. You can either have an AP and get "pro-tuned" with Cobb software, or you can get an Open-Source tune with the Open-Source software.
Welcome! Great looking car! If I were you I would probably go catless with up pipe and downpipe then get a nice catback exhaust. For sure get a tune after. I'm not very good with the whole modding thing as I messed up my own car (working to get it back to driving state after $3000 extra dollars) but there are tons of guys on here with great advice!
^^ thank you very much. I'm having a hell of a time trying to figure out what to do for mods. I bought the car with the intentions of just keeping it stock. Once I started visiting these sites, it kinda makes it hard to keep it stock knowing that there is so much more horsepower to be had. I'll be putting her to bed soon and I guess I have the winter months to ponder the mods.
Wondering if you still feel the same way about the car? Seven years is way more than enough time for that to change.
75,000 miles later and I still have it and still enjoy it! It feels slow to me now but am waiting for the engine to let loose before doing anything else.
The CTS-V has been a dream car of mine for many years. They are finally coming down in price enough that they are affordable. I like the idea of a stock 4-door with 556 HP!!
Until you drive a ctsv on the track... They are actually pretty good. And fast enough to get hang time on the autobahn track in Joliet, IL... Ask me how I know.
They are extremely mod friendly and sexy as hell in my opinion. I have not driven one yet, but that will change very soon!
The Cts-v is an awesome car! I had a chance to drive it compared to a m3, c63 amg and an is-f when trying to decide which to go with. I really appreciated the raw power of the cts-v. I don't feel you'll be dissapointed!
I have been researching them for a couple of months now and the more I learn the more I like them! Biggest conflict I have is making the decision to go with the manual or auto. Trying to find a manual in the color and trim level I want is like finding a needle in a stack of needles.
Patience! If the reason why you are considering an auto, is due to the difficulty in finding a manual, I would recommend being patient and waiting for the right manual to come along. Having your car already sold and being prepared to fly to pick up the new one will make the process much easier. Just be thankful that you aren't searching for a CTSV wagon with a manual!
I'm in no hurry and have no problem waiting for the right one to come along. The thing I like about the Auto's is that they can hold retarded HP in stock form. Technically they are faster in the 1/4 and 0-60 as well. I just don't know if I could give up driving a manual........As far as the 6M Wagon, they refer to them as "The Unicorn"
Could you PM me what's all done to the car currently and just general info? Hoping I will be in a position to get into one by the time yours is ready to move on. Thanks!
Here is the link to my build thread. https://mnsubaru.com/threads/brocos-2005-sti-build-thread.47225/#post-776233 Car currently has 129,000 miles on it. It has only been driven during one mild winter. Absolutely no rust. Runs amazing trans shifts great.
I can attest to how well this Bro takes care of his car. (He's soooper anal!) Seriously tho...super clean STi!
I'm sure there will be a bunch of guys lined up to take her for a ride, but please consider me at least interested to sneak a peak of that "retired hooker" when she becomes available.
