wow.. going from a built TRE trans w/ACT clutch (in a DSM) to an OEM STi clutch is a world of difference. simply said, the OEM STi clutch is garbage when you try to launch. I gave it a soft 4500 rpm launch and it smelled like ass for 10 minutes. anywho, anybody have any recommendations as to some good aftermarket clutch manufacturers? i know excedy/act makes clutches for the STi. i don't want any puck-clutches cause that's just way too hard on the tranny. also, what kind of hp/tq can the stock 6-speed take anywho before synchros and forks start going? my goal with this car is ~350 awhp so please recommend something not too overkill or vagina-like. thanks
I run an ACT clutch with more pounds of grab then the car weighs and it seems to do OK (because my car weighs more than 500 lbs less than an STi ). Are you sure you had enough time to wear in your OEM clutch? Be careful adding grip to the clutch. Even though the STi 6MT is a better gearset than the previous 5MTs I bet it'll still break. Make sure you have you shifting down perfect before moving to a stickier clutch. One slip and boom!
After installing an Exedy twin plate for a customer there is no substitute. I have a single plate on my 380 AWHP STI and no problems with it or the tranny. If you ask around I am not exactly nice to my car either.
the stock STi clutch is far from "garbage" people have used it for over 300+whp and had it hold. if you would like an exedy twin plate clutch however, let me know and i can get you one. Ben
wow... i swear nothing is as bad as the stock evo8 clutches. my old civic shifted into gears way better.
