    ^^ ditto!

I have driven both, an 08 on a test drive...and my 09 for the last month, until I got a damn knock in the motor last night. ( whole diff story) but the 09 is a whole different machine. Read the Dyno day thread over in the events section, as well as the 09 wrx vf52 thread somewhere else in the forum.

    Edit: http://mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29099 < vf52 thread link.

Go with 09. It depends what you want to do with the car. If you going to change your suspension and upgrade turbo for something bigger than get 08, otherwise for daily car 09 is excellent. I wish I knew about 09 when I got my 08 :(

The only reason I could see to get the 08 was if it were massively cheaper due to some end of year sale at Subaru. If there is a $4,000 difference or something between the two, there are a lot of mods you can do for that kind of money to more and make the difference.

That, and some people like the cushier feel of the 08 (not most sports car folks though).

Flip a coin. Write "08" on one side and "09" on the other.

This is true, but you also have to factor in a whole years worth of depreciation in there as well. Resale value will be higher on an '09 then an '08.

ok sorry to bring thread back but i need to know. I found a 08 wrx like new(meaning less than 100miles) and a 09 wrx. price difference is 25k for the 09 base trim and 20k for the 08 base trim. depreciate 5k a year sounds right, bout what about the power and extra's the 09 has.

I have an 08. Do not get the 08 unless you plan on dropping money in suspension mods. 08's stock suspension is a joke. With big sway bar and coilovers 08 probably will be ok.

    >>I think the 09's got a big power upgrade however i could be way off. But I thought i read that somewhere.

Power on my stock 08 is close to my stage 2 03 wrx so no complain there. However 09 has a vf52 for stock turbo and produces 265hp and 243lb-ft

Here is a thread I kinda followed for a bit. Owner of this 08 did lots of mods to his cars:

    http://forum.mazda6club.com/index.php?showtopic=102156&st=0

With 09, the only problem seems to be the rod bearing failure in some of the motors. If you say went to stage 2 and then have a rod bearing failure that can be bad. Subaru however seems to be doing a good job replacing the failed motors (on stock cars at least).

Yeah, the stock suspension and tires are both terrible on all WRX's prior to the 09 MY.

Question is if the tranny would be able to handle that much torque! I hope it will.

The tranny is fine on 08+ models. It's same as Legacy's tranny and they can handle a lot more than stage 2.

    Ching,
If money is tight then I would settle for the 08 wrx but if it's the problem then would get the 09 wrx due to the upgrade suspension and bigger turbo. I just thought I let you know. You'll be happier in the long run. Otherwise an use STi is always an option.

Yeah, this is a great idea for small, simple minds incapable of critical thinking or balancing pros and cons. If you are retarded, go with this idea.
Otherwise, I'd try thinking about the two cars pros and cons, and what you intend to do with the car later on down the line and make your decision accordingly.

You know it will never be enough power. Soon will go stage 1 and stage 2 and warranty goes bye, bye.

    Depends on the owner.

I'd gladly trade my modified '06 for a stock '09 and be completely happy. I've found other avenues to help satisfy my need for thrills.

Stage 1 and 2 doesn't make your warranty go bye bye. Your warranty is still completely valid on parts that aren't affected by the catback exhaust you put on.
