I have a 03 WRX (just bought it, so this is not an issue that just suddenly occured, it has always doen it), and when I shut the engine off it shakes. I have owned cars in the past that shaked when I shut the motor off, but the cars were always POS's, so I am wondering if this is "normal"? I am assuming that this is just either crappy stock motor mounts, or I infact have a bad motor mount? Any input appreciated. Oh, and one other thing, pretty sure it is unrelated, but when at idle, my factory boost gauge moves slightly, all other boosted cars I have owned in the past stay at a steady vacuum when at idle, but the wrx has what seems to be a slight vacuum leak perhaps, although the fluctuating boost gauge does NOT effect the rpm's. (rpm's do not bounce or surge at idle)... I have had one other reputable subie owner in my car, and he said that this was perfectly normal, I just wanted a 2nd opinion I guess, because I am uber paranoid about everything, haha...
the gauge is a piece of crap and all gauges will move slightly, they just have averaging usually that keeps them more still.
I think the shaking thing is normal cuz my 04 does it too, prolly could fix that with some better mounts as you said.
Yeap, the shaking is normal. My 02WRx does it too. I guess its b/c its a Boxer Engine? Somehow I like the shaking.
i dont notice my car shakin when i turn it off. I get a random drop in rpms everyonce and a while at idle it acts like the car is shaking.
Well, I didn't have a WRX, but the engine in my 2.5RS would shake a bit at start up and shut off. Then we put GrpN motor mounts in it, and the first time I started it, it looked as though the car was going to flip itself on to its roof. That's how squidgy the stock motor mounts were. I think all engines have a tendency to shake somewhat at really low revs. Diesels are notorious for it. Stuart.
Also on an RS, mine shakes a bit when it hits like 600 rpm or when it shuts off completely. It seems completely fine and normal to me. When I put my group-N mounts in, nothing moved anymore - not at all - and the shake was vastly reduced. Sometimes it dies when I put the clutch in, and I don't even notice, where before I could always feel it shake when it shut down.
I've got an 03 and my engine shakes when I shut it off as well. Sometimes it shakes harder then others. Sometimes, I don't feel it at all.
My OB shakes when idling at a stop light. Seems normal for all Subies. How hard is it to replace motor mounts?
Definitely a motor mount if the shaking is excessive. As for your gauge, its just faster reacting than others. My Defi gauge moves very quickly and will also do this at idle.
