I am wondering if the factory speakers and tweeters from my 13 wrx will fit in my wifes 2009 Forester. She doesn't have Navi or the upgraded speakers. Will my WRX speakers even be an upgrade at all for the Forester? Will it be plug and play?

    Thank you!

Yes, they will fit. Yes, they will be better.

All of the newer WRX's come with the "Premium" 6-speaker system. Foresters and Impreza's come with the "Basic" 4-speaker system.

The "Premium" speakers are actually pretty decent. Inline with most sub-$100 aftermarket speakers. The "Basic" speakers (like in your wife's Forester) are total garbage.

They won't sound amazing, but it will definitely be better. And if you put a real head unit on them they would actually be pretty decent.

Don't know if they are a direct fit or not, but I doubt they are going to be any better than the stock forester ones. They are all your typical OEM papercone stuff. If you're going through all the trouble of putting them in, you'd be better served spending the 100 or so bucks to get a decent set of components.

Thanks Ben, I am getting new components for the WRX and didn't want these to go to waste. Do you happen to know if the tweeters from the WRX will go into the Forester? I know the forester has the tweeter "add on", are the WRX' tweeters the same as the Forester add ons?

The 2011+ WRX has the upgraded "6-speaker" system and it is on par with aftermarket speakers. 2010 and prior WRX's had the crappy "4-speaker" system.

    4-speaker vs. 6-speaker:

2011 WRX Stock Speakers (woven "Kevlar" cones, coaxials in all 4 doors, reasonably large magnets, and tweeters in the sails):

The tweeters should be plug and play. Just be careful removing the sails. I destroyed both of mine in my Forester. They're pretty easy to break. They should be a very nice upgrade for free. Just keep in mind that the stock HU is the real weak spot. It still won't sound great unless you buy a new HU.

Interesting, my 04 WRX had a 6 speaker system in it from the factory. I didn't know they had gotten rid of it. It still sucked huge sacks of dicks though.

Thanks for the info and the photos, keeping my eye open for a cheaper HU or just bite the bullet on a new one!

The GD WRX does have 6 speakers, but they're cheap paper ones. On par with the 4 speaker setup of today, but with door tweeters.

I believe the 2011 WRX was a pretty big jump up for Subaru speakers. There were a lot of posts about it when the 2011 WRX's first came out.

Want an Alpine CDA 9886? I have one but only the radio and 3.5mm input works. The USB and CD does not. I'm thinking of getting one that has USB working because that's what I would use the most.

Maybe someone who doesn't use USB or CD would want my partially broken one? Probably not likely, but worth a shot!

It was worth a try but I think I will have to pass on this one Ben! The wife wants DVD in the Forester.

Lots of good info here...I had no idea that they actually started putting what appear to be semi-decent speakers in WRX's. Subaru finally fixed one of their long standing issues after all these years!
