So to all you newbies out there, like me, it's possible to do-it-yourself with a bunch of time and good tools. I just finished my project; VF39 ($350), modded WRX injectors 660cc ($125), Walbro FP ($90), SSAC TMIC ($150), Perrin Turbo Inlet ($200), NGK BKR7E (colder plugs). I was already at Stage 2 running an AP.

The final results...243 whp, 223 torque on a Dyno Dynamics Dynometer at DB Performance. They say a stock WRX on their dyno runs 155 whp. Since Subaru states 227 hp at the crank stock, I figure I'm coming in at about 360 hp, 60 hp over a stock STI.

Should I have just bought an STI in the first place? Who cares because I wasn't willing to pay up at the time. Having this car to slowly invest and tinker with has been great. I couldn't have done it any other way. If any WRXers need help doing any install work, I'd be happy to lend a hand. Although, I can't say that I know what I'm doing.

    Congrats!

I am in the same position, but I haven't gotten mine tuned yet. I went with the 16g turbo and a GM boost solenoid to control things though.

Did you get tuned at DB or did you just run an off the shelf map?

Nice numbers! Just as a little comparison for you my stock 05 STi made 226 whp-230 Tq on DB's dyno.

With a VF34 + FMIC and 680cc modded stock injectors, I made 270whp and 240tq on the Mustang dyno at RS.

Stock WRXs make 155-165whp and Stock STi's made 215-225 on it.

Sorry man. Doesn't everyone say a fmic is a waste on a vf39? Cause if they do there wrong.

I'm sure u'll get more WHP with a FMIC, but I don't think it is worth the $$$ for a few more ponies

I was hoping for more power, but I'm really happy nonetheless. I don't know what to do with all the speed. My spool up seems slower than it should be, even though I've got a catless UP. Any thoughts?

Yeah, I was thinking the same. When are you seeing full boost? From looking at your chart, I would assume somewhere in the 4-4500 range?

The last car I tuned (td05-18g with a GM BCS and EWG) could hit 19psi by 3800 rpm in 3rd gear.

Where have all you guys got your cars tuned at? I am sitting with a toned down base map and all my parts in after this weekend. I put in a 16g EVO III turbo, modded injectors, GM EBCS, Ebay TMIC, Samco Y and turbo inlet hose, and a walbro 255 pump.

WRX1 did my last tune, but it sounds like he isn't available for a while. Can anybody recommend a decent place that I can get tuned at? I need to release the chains that are on my car right now...

Did you loose the Cobb AP altogether or have a custom map made for it?

What did you think of the DB tune? Did you have anything to compare it to? Cost?

^^what he asked... and what difference in WHP and WTQ you gained from it. They should've made a baseline and a tuned comparison for you. Did they?

No race gas tune. I don't think that I'll ever be running race gas with this current setup. I'm going to start getting into auto-x and the driver's ed track days at BIR. Maybe when I move into a bigger turbo, I'll start looking at extracting every ounce of power and using race gas.
