I figured sense i had both of my suspension set ups off i'd take a pic of how much more wussy the wrx strut is. check this out!! View attachment 3103
That's just because it's an inverted strut design. if you were to remove the outer housing, you would still see a similarly sized shaft.
Inverted dampners are supposed to be more resistant to side loads compared to standard. Pretty much any serious coilovers that may see rally use will be that way.
so i actually went out and checked the whole strut out. i cant find a skinnier part that you guys are talking about.
^ did you remove the nut at the bottom of the strut an pull out the insert? This prodrive bumpstop install guide shows it. http://wrx.grapon.com/techdocs/prodrive_bumpstop.pdf
If you look at the pdf, you can see it, you don't really need to take yours apart... I mean, unless you want to. afaik, the spec-Cs aren't really much different (if at all) than the stock USDM STi struts.
dammit!!!!!! just get the proper strut tops and slap'em in. question and answer period is over!!!! I had a great experience with Teague's (www.boxer4racing.com) Get a full set of group N's, and they'll set you up.
