Anyone kow the sizes of the speakers in the wagon? I have seen that there are 6 1/2" up front and 4" in the rear. I have also read that there is a mounting depth restriction on the front doors. I have looked at a lot of speakers and most of the 6 1/2" components are too deep for the specs I have seen. I was looking at kicker, infinity, rockford fosgate, polk, and sony. I heard the mb quarts, and thought they were a little bright on the highs. Anyone used those brands, and are you happy with them?

I am running the inifinity 60.5cs speakers in the front doors on my sedan. I have to use some speaker adapter rings. I picked them up at www.iaperformance.com. I haven't had a chance to dig into the rears yet, but I plan on installing a set of 5 1/4" somethings. Not to sure on what is going to be installed yet.

I am running AudioBan 6 and 1/2 components in the front 6" in the back doors, Ring mod to fit, and 2 10" subs.... I used to do too many rock shows.

I just did some quick checking for rears on the wagon. if you are going to stay stock... Crutchfeild seems to think the rears on the 03 are 4's.

    top-mount depth 1-11/16"

Just as an idea. I like using places like cruchfield to figure out the basics then mod from there.

Good luck. I know a few things if you need help, and tell us what you do in the end.

I would like larger rears, and better fronts. I would like to have a sub installed as well but I may pay someone to build something custom so I do not loose the cargo space.

I have been planing on making a custom box for mine, but I haven't gotten around to it yet, so if you find some one that makes good sonic enclosure for a decent cost please tell me.

From what I remember when I talked to the guy that did the door speakers (I still cant belive I let someone else do it) that it wasn't much work to put in mine. But I have an 02 sedan... I would doupt that the mounting sizes would be that much differnt, and you can usualy find adaptor rings, or make your own from some wood and silicon.

Another thing is that once you have a crossover in play you will not need that much larger of rear door speakers unless you like it to go boom boom and that is it. a 4 or 5 inch speaker is prime for vocals, and then you let the subs do their work.... The cross over points that I tried to tune into my system are about 250 hz for the sub to start kicking in, and the rear door speakers kick out (24db / octive or so) at about 240.

I guess the main question is how anal about sound are you? What kind of music do you listen to? I have sugestions for all of the above.

I had a company build a fiberglass enclosure that was painted to match the trim in one of my past trucks (explorer), it it sounded great compared to the factory Mach system with only one solobaric and mbquart components upfront and 5x7" plates in the rear. I want something that wil come close if not surpass that. I do not want a car that shakes the rearview mirror off my car, I want something that will sound great with my varied listening style. As for music, I listen to almost anything.

However Techno/Trance/Europop (i.e. Airplay, Ian Van Dahl, Scooter) and Alternative or what ever they are calling now (i.e. Linkin Park, Chevelle, Tantric, 3 Days Grace). But I also listen to a little rap/hip hop, and very little country, some classical (mainly modern classical) and some heavier rock, and even some easy listening (i.e. Vanessa Carlton, Natalie Merchant).

My music collection is very wierd to some people, but I drive 110 miles round trip to work, and drive around a lot for work so different musical styles grew on me. The only car I have not swapped everything on was my 2001 GTI, I only swapped the deck because the Monsoon sounded great in that car.

I built a custom box for my wagon and am pleased. I had no fiberglassing experience but with a little patience, everything turned out pretty good. My box takes up the passenger side rear corner, if you don't mind losing the spare, you could retain all the cargo room, plus it'd be easier to make one to fit the spare tire hole. I preferred keeping the spare.

I have done all my boxes out of MDF. I want the tight solid reproduction without flexing. I have never realy tried doing fiberglass boxes, but I know a much more asteticaly pleasing box could be made out of it.... My thing is that they have no weight so I would also have to do differnt mounting... which is all good I just still need the gap in the back for the board and planks during the winter.

TrisNiN, I would put your listening style it the same catagory as mine... Pain in the ass! It is obviously harder to build a system that sounds good under every condition. I like mine overall, but a DSP/EQ is still needed.

I guess it comes down to how much you want to spend on your system, and how much trunk space you are willing to loose.

The 2 10" AudioBan subs in my car are WAY more than the car needs. I have the amp almost off (rockford 250.5).

Well you are more than welcome to E-mail me, or post here idea's of what you are thinking on doing. I may make some post when I get around to making a custom box for my stuff.

I am realy intrested in what you are going to do in the end.

I will probably fix up the system in my NSX before the WRX. The NSX just doesn't have the punch I like. You can hear the hammer hit the kick drum nice and clear..... just a weak kick drum reverberance (sp?).

Good luck, and I hope I can help when you are realy getting ready to move forward.
