Ok, well, this is a bit earlier than I had planned on buying struts...but, had an issue while installing springs tonight. Need front struts for an 05 STi. It's really just the insert that I need but don't know if anyone has one of those sitting around. Let me know if you have something for me. I don't know that there are a lot of options for struts on this car...and I'm not looking to go Ohlins or coilovers quite yet...so the stockers would do just fine. Please pm me if you have something, thanks. Mike
after some thought, coilover's may be an option as well...but not the optimal choice. I'm actually a bit angered by this situation. I was installing some replacement springs, and as I was tightening everything down the strut top basically stripped right off. I was following torque specs, but think it's an issue with how the camber plates change the location of the strut top nut (basically causes the strut top nut to just clear the top of the strut top bolt. The bolt sheared at the bottom of where the bolt is hallowed out for the allen wrench. Car will be parked for a bit now unless I can find a replacement. But, given I was planning on coilovers as soon as the end of next year, I'm not counting out a nice coilover. Now I'm going to bed so that I don't have to think about this crap anymore
Yeah...they're RCE replacement springs. They had an issue with coil bind in some of the fronts. So they provided free front spring replacements. This went from a free fix to a possible expensive fix (if I decide to go coilover...planned on doing it next year sometime anyway). Keep an eye out for RCE springs if that's the case I actually really like the springs and had no issues with coil bind. And now the fronts are brand new (no miles) and the rears have about 3000 miles.
Ahh I see. I've got some Tanabe springs on now but my rear strut(s) are starting to clunk again (2nd set). Let us know what you decide to go with I'm trying to figure out what to do when I finally replace these current struts.
