Found out from a new coworker who is/was a member here (can't remember his screen name, though, he says he hasn't posted much lately, but reads almost daily). Other cars: 1990 Legacy L sedan auto (rusty, parked in garage after recent possible alternator issue) 2002 Outback Ltd wagon, auto
If you just want aux-in (ignoring the mp3/SAT capability) this is probably a cheaper way to go: http://www.jazzyengineering.com/product_info.php?products_id=44
Wow, I was looking everywhere for something like this! I hate using an FM transmitter for my iPod because I have to turn the volume up so ungodly high.
I noticed that when I imported all of my cd's into my ipod, the need for cranking the volume with the fm trans. ceased! The quality of the mp3 copy, assuming you have alot of "burned" music, is what determines the vol. level!! Anyway, let me know how the new set up works!
My transmitter is a Belkin, and I've done some research. The problem is that it does it's own leveling on the transmission, so nothing changes the volume of the signal sent. The problem is that the transmitter is underpowered (might think about amping it since i can charge at the same time) and that the MSP area is just too littered with radio stations. We are quoted as one of the densest radio neighborhoods.
Mine is a Griffin that I picked up from Best Buy. It only works on 87.9fm, well it plays on other stations when needed...but I drove from here to Iowa and used 87.9fm all the way and it comes in crystal clear! It also has a usb connector to charge while you use it. I've had two friends with different brands and they have problems with theirs also! I would sell yours on e-bay and pick up the Griffin...tis bueno!
07 has aux in the 6disc changers on some (06's 6 disc and maybe some of the previous years) can have the Jazz adapter installed to have the aux in BUT you have to play a silent audio cd in the background, lol Look around for the Jazz adapter to find more info
yeah when i saw that the 07 had the aux i was kinda mad, but the adapter should be good. i have a ton of cds, but going down to a 5 disc changer instead of 6 so that my ipod sounds nice and crisp and clear sounds like an okay concession
Put all of your cd's on the ipod and you can ditch the cd changer all together and get the touch screen dvd/navi!! I don't use my cd player at all anymore!!
yeah i've seen some of the touchscreen stuff, but if i had that kind of money to burn - i wouldn't be spending it on audio gear when this does what i want...
Okay so I ordered it and it's supposedly on its way. I've never taken apart this car yet and love some help once it gets here. I'm looking at you Josh, since you don't have much to do as of late.... fyi this is my 42nd post - if you don't know what i'm hinting at google "douglas adams"
I have a good sense of direction and plenty of maps and no wish for aftermarket audio gear to get stolen, so I was trying to keep things looking stock. I don't want to pay Subaru's ~$700 for the 2007 changer, but if someone is going aftermarket with their 2007, I'm interested.
Are you seeking the answer or the question?? the question or the answer?? What is an answer...what is a question...what is a quanswer?:???: all I know is it = 42....i think.
??? It uses the OEM deck, you just end up with the RCA plugs hanging around somewhere, I'm sure they would tuck under the center console trim when not in use, or route them through the ash tray. Actually, I bet you could get just the aux-in '07 ashtray plug from a dealer, and wire that to the Jazzy board. I'd like an OEM '07 deck as well, mainly for built-in satellite, but the ones that come up on Nasioc go for ~$250, and they go quick. Maybe worth it to some, just seems a bit much when the older ones fetch maybe $100.
I just ordered it anyway and it came on Monday. I have it all installed and hidden and it works great! Charging my Ipod with line out all through a "dock" cable....
Interestingly enough, when I pulled my deck apart to insert the jumper board I noticed that the screen in my deck already had an LED for the SAT. Anyone know if that function just needs a module to activate it?
I bought the $100 kit, $5 for shipping, $.01 for the fact mine was the '06. I think that the penny was just so they got the correct instructions but not sure, the pinouts could be different. Also the site will say they don't have stuff in stock, but I think that is because they just make them as they are ordered like I would if I was running the site. Overall a great circuit board, and something I didn't expect to find was that the whole thing was shrink tubed so you don't get accidental shorts. This was something I thought I was going to have to do. You can buy just the board, or the board and Ipod cable too ($50 and $70 respectively) and skip the ground loop interrupt or grab it for the $15. You don't really need to spend the last $15 for the RCA couplers and the headphone to RCA patch cable (it comes as a 6' cable which I found to be way too long so I replaced it with one out of my stash of cables). Finally I also found that there was no good way to get the patch cable out of the deck without cutting, so I dremeled a small gap in the heatsink near the connector to accommodate the cable. Wow that was longer than I expected it to be, and maybe more confusing too.
Doubt it, there aren't any controls for it, the '07 units have buttons for sat/cat etc. Wonder if there is an OEM unit from another manufacturer that uses a similar design?
Yo, thanks for the write up. I was contemplated if I should spend $100 on this, right now I just run a cassette adapter into my ipod. I mean sound is not great...but live able.
