I'm not sure if I'm naming the part I need correctly, but I need it bad. I was helping my manager replace his brakes and rotors on his 2002 Outback 2.5l sedan when we broke the lower bolt. His slider pin was also rusted real bad (which would explain his horrible vibrations when he braked). We need this asap. If anyone has one we could borrow or buy that would be great. I've included pictures of the part we need. Right now i've drilled it out as far as possible (not in pictures) and takin heat to it. (MAP gas.. iirc.. The yellow bottle). That damn bolt is rusted in place. We just need something quick. Please pm me if you can help out **AND INCLUDE YOUR EMAIL/PHONE NUMBER** so I can get back to you asap. Tomorrow is going to be kinda crazy for me, but I'll have my blackberry on me. I can't answer PM's on it, but I can get e-mails with your PM information on it, so please include that info on the PM so I can contact you back.
you need the bolt?? i would call morries BP right away. i had to get a caliper bolt for my STi and i couldn't find one at ANY place... home depot, lowes, pepboys. Napa was the only place that had it! But im 99% sure morries BP parts is open till 12 on sats
find a drill bit that fits perfect into the other hole, on the left in the pic, and then re heat it, hella hot, u should be able to melt the rest out, you can also borrow a tap/ die set from most auto parts stores to clean the threads of the bracket, and you sholud be set with just buying the screw.
huh....I know someone who probably has one. too bad he can't see this section. I'll see what I can do. which side is that?
Drivers, though it shouldn't matter because it's a symmetrical part. Ksal - I would like the whole bracket if possible instead of messing around with trying to drill/tap. mke723: I had the MAP gas stuff on it for a good 5 minutes.. it's not melting anytime soon. Grade 8 bolts ftl in that situation. I'm a little iffy about drilling it myself because if i'm off at all.. i'm hosed. I'm considering taking it to a machine shop like Cath auto to see if they can drill it out for me.
i meant drill it as much as ya could, hent heat the parts left in the threads, but i forget that i use my drill press and not every one has one, alltho every one should, its so much more accurate... but best of luck, hope ya got it figgured out
I don't think i'd want to put a non automotive bolt on my brakes. Who knows what kind of tension and corrosion resistance they have. I'f i'm doing the brakes on a -06 impreza i'd make sure to have an extra bolt on hand because they break really easily.
what do you calss as a non automotive bolt... get a bolt that is graded correctly... if you cant find the bracket.. run down to my place.. I will get that thing out with a torch and vice...
Sorry for the late reply.. Crazy weekend. I ended up taking it to Red Rooster in Crystal, MN. They have a machine shop. Guy took care of it for me. Thanks all for helping!
