Apparently I need this tool to compress the rear calipers on the wife's Audi. Does anyone have it and can I buy/borrow it? I guess they're about $100 through VW.

Are you talking about the tool that spins the caliper piston in? If you are you can rent it at checker auto. Other then that there are no special tools that I know of.

    Probably west of you.
I've used a "C" Clamp and a channel lock to do the job.

Tighten a little and spin, tighten a little and spin...
It wasn't the easiest, but it saved me a trip to the store - too many :cheers2: to drive.

Just be careful not to damage the dust boot.

Iroc-Z: That is the part. I'll make my way over to Checker either tonight or tomorrow.

rock on to the c-clamp/channel lock combo. the first time I did my jetta's brakes I was stuck out in the driveway until long past dark in december trying to figure out how to compress that damn caliper. My neighbors must have thought I had gone batty with all the foul-mouthedness.

not sure abotu the VW but on the newer Fords one side is countercloskwise the other clockwise so you need 2 different tools.... doubt the VW are similar
