Do the 6spd swap if you have the $ and can find one.

Well I just had a guy on nasioc pm this:

"I noticed you were looking for new transmission since your 3rd gear went out. I have for sale a Andrewtech built straight cut ppg1-4 tranny with exedy twindisk clutch. looking for around 4200 picked up or about 4500 shipped"

I would much rather do the 6spd. So I'm not sure yet.

Depending on what you want to do with the car may dictate what you want to choose as far as a transmission. I know Andrew at Andrewtech is doing another group buy on his own PPG gearset ratios, from what I heard you can hit over 40 in first. The regular PPGs are also going to require less shifting than a 6MT. The 6MT is a great transmission, and you'll get the upgraded front and center diffs as well. The only downside to it is that the gearing is so short you'll be shifting all the time.

I wouldn't mind auto x in down the road but it be just for fun. I'm just mainly looking for a stronger tranny that's not going to go out on me again. I'm only stage 2 now and I have a vf39 going on soon so something that will be able to handle that power and me beating the piss out a it!

Ok. Well it looks like the biggest part to deal with is the rear end. You ether have to find a rear diff that's 3.90 out of a older legacy like 90 to 94, mod my r160 with 3.90 r&p witch from 1stsubaruparts.com is almost $500 plus who know how much to have it put in or, use the r180 from the STi witch you then have to change alex's, hub's, knuckle's and the rear brake's. If it's not an 04 then the rear strut assembly. If you do a 06-07 sti tranny you don't have to change the rear end out. But I can't seem to find one any were! I need all the help I can get here guys! Please let me know if you got any thing to help me out here! Thanks

How much do they go for new? Also what kind of discount do we get.(how much 5%,10%,ect)

If the 06-07 are cheaper that would great! I can just use the rear end that in my now and not have to mess with all that bs! I'm going to call them in the morning!

Well I just got a price quote from Millennium Auto. 04 Sti tranny, clutch, shifter, linkage, STi ds, and a R160 just under $4k with shipping. This is the route I'm going to go that is if I can't get a small loan from my dad!

I'm so jealous of you.... I really want an STi 6spd.

I'll just use the 5spd up until I can afford one :(

Many old Legacys have 3.90 rear diffs in them. You should be able to source one for $100 or less. I was underneath several at Chesneys.

Swapping the ring an pinion is not terribly difficult, nor should it take a competant mechanic more than two hours if they get down to business.
