I have an 07 2.5i, i am looking for cams for my motor, i dont plan to turbo it yet (if ever), but would like to get a bit more power. cobb offered cams for the 06/07 when i bought it, they dont sell them anymore, i called cobb they said there was not a high interest, but also would not give me the grind specs. so after all that, does anyone have some info for me? its the 253 motor SINGLE (SOHC) thanks
regrinds? so would i have to send them my current cams? or do you know if the sell cams with a core charge?
^^ That depends on their stock level at the time of ordering. If they have none, you have no choice but to send in yours or a second set to eliminate down time. Reground cams are hit and miss. They can have their issues. You are taking a cam that has been ground to size then heat treated for hardness, that hardness does not penetrate through the entire cam. It is only on the surface for a limited depth. Regrinding removes much of that hardened layer as they create the smaller base circle of the cam. It is some thing that may never be an issue, it may be one from the start or not show up until 20k miles later. I have seen to many issues with regrinds in various engines (import, domestic to the powersports industries(atv, motorcycle...)) to personally feel like it is a viable option. Then again many people have great success with regrinds. Do plenty of research, with engine builders, shops, web.... not just the company doing the regrind(after all they are still salesman). Then make your own decision.
