I'm looking to put together a dedicated set of wheels for dirt/gravel rally-x. My car's a 2004 FXT, and I want to stick with 16 inch rims (100x5 lug pattern). If you've got some stock rims lying around, condition doesn't matter, as long as the rims aren't bent. I'd grab a set of steelies from Tirerack, but they are out of stock for at least a month and half. If you got a set of dirt/mud/gravel rally-x tires/rims already together in decent condition, let me know as well. I'd like to stay close to stock sizing (around 26 inch diameter). Thanks!
For tires for Rally-x, get a set of Firestone Winterforce tires ($67 ea from Tire Rack). Steelies aren't the best idea for rally-x, as they bend easily and in extreme cases can metal fatigue around the lugs as well. For wheels you can either pay about $85 each for some alloys from tirerack, or try to find someone selling some stock WRX 16" wheels, which come up for sale pretty often, and will proabbly be a little cheaper and stronger.
Actually, I'm looking to try out the Cooper Weather Master S/T 2 tires, which is about the same price as the winterforce, and I like the squared off block pattern and the few that have run them like them. I'm hoping to find a set of stock 16" rims, but I'll grab a cheap alloy set if I don't find something in the next couple weeks.
you have a forester, that means these will fit. in a 16 in size http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiresB.jsp?tireMake=General&tireModel=Grabber+AT+2 I envy the tires that can fit on that car. if you dont want to go that route, do the winterforce for a budget minded rally x tire.
Unfortunately I'm running Tokico Dspecs, and won't be able to run truck tires due to clearance issues. So I can't run 27 inch diameter tires any more, until I go to coilovers sometime in the future.
