what are you looking for? cheap, LOUD, low rumbles, flashy, quite?

there are many diffrent options out there. IMHO all the exhuasts are very similar its just brand loyalty. so i wouldnt really worry bout wich to pick from the major brands ie HKS, Greddy, Borla. granted they all have there own qualities but in the end they will be roughly the same.

if i had money and needed exhuast (i will list my current soloutino later) i would spend it on something designed specifically for a subie. such as Stromung(sp?), scooby sport or subarformance.

http://www.stromung.com/ i here that many people are happy with these. i think they have sounds clips on ravensblade impreza's website (for both stromung and scoobysport)
http://www.scoobysport.co.uk/ scoobysport specalizes in wrx/STi exhuast but the axle back can be used by itself with some 2" - 2.5" custom exhuast. i believe they redesigned the muffler to be less loud, but if you can find an older one (used on i-club or something) they were supposedly the LOUDEST exhaust for a subie.
http://www.subarformance.com/ (this is the only link i have to there website. these guys are on i club alot. they specialize in headers (ie full race headers, Equal lenght headers)

    for sound only:
for a very cheap mod ($18 + stock axle back) you can always gut the stock muffler, and replace the innards with some piping. fuji did this first, and now i have done it. by using the stock axle back it will look stock, and also allow you to use your stock 1.75" or 2" (not sure on RS) exhaust making the witch easy.

FYI: my next exhausat mod will either use my current gutted muffler or a scoobysport back box. not sure yet

For a prefab I like the way the Scoobysport sounds on the RS. Or you could have a 3" turbo back one made which will sound way cooler. Yeah, there are other parts you have to add before that ;)

lol, about 2k worth of other parts. i think meng still has his kit for sale. 2.2k is his asking i think. then you could use a 3" TBE, and stomp almost any car on the road. **[cough] 8psi [/cough]**

i have an extra muffler that is already gutted (needs to have new piping put into it), which save alot of time. when i gutted mine it tool me 15-20 min to open the muffler up, and maybe 2 hours with a sawzall hammer and plieres to remove the wierd maxze of pipes and baffles in the muffler. plus it needed to be welded shut again. however this whole project only cost me $18. 10 for a 24" section of 3" pipe, and $8 for a new gasket from subaru.

i have noticed mixed gains from this mod. at first it seemed as if i gained a very small bit of power through the whole rev range. (hard to tell since i put it on then went mudding lol) any way now (5-6 moths later) i feel that i have lost a tiny bit of low end power but gained it back on the high end. this is most likely due to the fact that i do not have adequate back pressure at low RPMS. but at high rpms the exhuast gasses flow better and thus allow me more power.

over all i would say that this mod is purely for sound. the performance gains that you would notice would be minimal. although you now have a 2.5l engine so less back pressure at low RPMs might benefit you more. i cant say. i am happy that i did it, it works just fine for my little 2.2l.

did you see the post regarding ej20 swaps for 3k? or are you lookign for a JDM ej20? maybe a STi ver. 2 or 3 (closed deck right?)?
