So, chux, I think I might want a Gl wagon with a 2.5/5spd, and 5lug w/rear disk swap for a winter/ general beater. How doable is it, and what might it cost me???

would be the third that I've built....but I'm calling the one I'm working on now "NCC-1" because it's the first I've built as Numbchux Conversions for someone else....

very doable...but not cheap. mostly for the 5-lug parts....they're getting insanely rare! also, we'd have to find a shell worth swapping (that doesn't cost an arm and a leg....or require shipping from WA).

and....I'm a bit booked....like through next summer probably :hsugh:

Well, I could live with the 4-lug setup. Mostly I just want a fun, reliable beater car that still gets decent mileage. The idea occurred to me last night when i figured our I was only getting 13-14mpg in my truck while delivering. That's just not acceptable. Mostly I'd just need you to do the harness, I think i can handle actually getting the motor in the car.

I noticed chesney's had a "new" GL wagon, so maybe I'll check that out next time I'm there. Definetly something to think about I guess...

well, if it comes down to it...I've got lots of 4-lug wheels/axles/brakes/knuckles....

keep an eye out for a shell. also, if you really do want to go 5-lug, an engine/front suspension/ebrake stuff donor car would be amazingly helpful!

if you do just want me to do the harness, I can do that pretty soon....as it only takes me about an hour nowadays to strip am older (pre-'01) EJ harness to be dropped into an EA. pretty simple since there's really no merging going on.

Just out of curiosity, what kinda mileage do you get in yours when your delivering? What kinda car would be the donor for the 5-lug stuff? I really dont' need a mint body or anything, just something that's not gonna disintegrate soon.

uh-oh duluth is buildign a fleet of swapped GL delivery vehicles. I can see it now. 10 EJ22 powered GLs ripping up and down the hills with sideways pizzas.

well....for the front we'd use the EJ struts, knuckles, axles, etc....

in all reality, doesn't matter what the donor car is for that stuff. it'll all work. problem comes when we get to the back. we'll need at least a few XT6 parts. might take some serious junkyard searching to find them.

as for mileage....the way I drive....about 20mpg. if I'm easy on the happy pedal (I actually did it for an entire shift!!), I can get almost 25.

sideways pizzas? naw......I'm always a safe and cautious driver when delivering

really? i figured you would be getting alot better mileage than that. that must be all city driving. w/ my NA EJ22E I could get 23-24mpg city and atleast 27 (sometimes 32) hwy. I was thinking that a lighter car w/ same power plant and 5 spd would get better milage.

Yeah, but delivering pizza will net you the worst mileage possible. Last winter, my camry would get 22-23mpg's while delivering, compared to 28-30 just driving around town normally.
