My motor locked up this past weekend and I've decided to just throw in another na 2.5 and get it back on the road. Please let me know if you've got anything that might work or hear of anything in the MN/ND area.
    Thanks!

I have a short block that may or may not have a spun bearing.

I'd prefer a complete running motor because I plan on possibly giving my locked motor to a buddy for helping me with the swap.

Do you guys think it'd be a bad idea to buy a motor from a salvage yard? I'd be a little nervous buying something they can't gaurantee will actually run. I'll call around anyways and see what's out there.

Most of them have a guarantee, just deal with some of the reputable yards out there are great to deal with. I have purchased 2 engines from Pam's and have had no issues (outside of a damaged cover that they replaced).

Yeah, and don't be afraid to get prices from other places. Pam's (and most other places) will wheel and deal on prices.

    I need a dohc.

I found out the motor from that craigslist ad came from a rolled over car but still ran fine afterwords. I'm gunna call him later and see what he has to say about it.

edit: crap crap crap crap crap! Some turd wad is goin to check out the motor later today, so I'm guessing I'm not gunna get this one :(

    I live in fargo. :(

...and we can't forget the fact that my motor is dead meaning I'm not going to be driving anywhere for a while lol. If I find a motor, I'll gladly pay somebody to drive me there and then buy it but otherwise I don't have much mode of transportation.

Well shucks, I've called like 25 salvage yards so far (I've still got over 100 on my list to go) and I haven't had a single place with a motor. I've got a few emails from places saying they have a motor for me, but they want over $2000 for it! If I'm going to pay $2000 for a motor, I might as well throw a couple extra bucks on top of that and just swap the flippin thing. grrrrr this is no fun :(

I've checked in on ebay a little bit here n there and haven't seen much. I did forget, however, that the legacy gt motors will swap in just fine :) So at least I'm not quite as limited.

don't forget, some of the legacy outbacks and foresters are 2.5 dohc. (but not all of them)

the rebuild that i'm doing, uses parts from the 2.5 impreza and the 2.5 forester, going in a 2.5 legacy.

not 100% sure yet. I had to spend most of the day cleaning things up and getting my car out of the garage so my roommate can park his sti in there. I'll update my other thread with pics.

I've been getting around alright on my moped for the past few weeks, but I just got a different job and I'll need a car to drive there everyday.

My dilemma is should I spend close to $1000 for another stock na motor for my rs while I wait for a donor car, or should I spend close to $1000 on a beater and drive that till i find a donor car? If I could find another stock motor for $500 or so I'd gladly buy that, but I've had a hard time finding one because my rs is a 98 and I need a dohc. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
    -Brian

Like what has been said before, look at 1997-1999 legacy GTs, and outbacks, and 1998 foresters.

Needs headgaskets which isn't the end of the world I realize.

I might have found a 98 outback in bismark tonight though. I'm gunna call him tomorrow and see if it's in good shape.
