Silencer Delete Elbow. Does anyone have one laying around, or know of a decent priced elbow. Its for a 05 Sti.
I sold mine recently, it sat in the garage forever and a day. Honestly, just let the air come from your fender well, save yourself 30-40 bucks. Otherwise I've seen them on ebay once and awhile cheap
I read on some posts from NASIOC that its better to have the elbow, air is not as hot)water gets to the filter etc. True or not?:eek4:
Funny, I just pulled mine off last night...but found out that the guy who owned my car before me had already cut a hole in the bottom of the silencer...essentially rendering it useless anyway. I've seen no adverse effects due to the hole being there. As far as water is concerned, I would think just as much water could make it through the silencer as would through the wheel well. As far as air temp, I stuggled with this one. As far as air pressure (and temperature), I suppose a little more forced air might make it to the filter with the silencer, but it doesn't seem like much as is. This is all just based on visual personal experience, nothing else...so take it for what it's worth.
I don't know. The only thing I don't like about the elbow and using the ram scoop is the passage the incoming air has to travel in order to get into the intake. It seem to be quite the restriction coming in through the grill and navigating up into the ram. IMO at least with the fender well you have colder air (not air passing through the hot engine bay). also, if you have all your stock fender guards and plastic underbody panels the water would have to get through all that and then be sucked up two feet vertical before getting into the intake. I have two wrx's in the family and both have been driven through snow storms and rain storms with no issues. but in the end it's all up to the owner, just giving you another option. good luck
I'm too lazy to search but there was a thread on NASIOC or IWSTI that compared IATs for open fender, stock and short ram and found the stock to be the best. No firm answers why but guessing would be there isn't a good flow of fresh air delivered in the fenderwell.
good little read. started having some concern over having silencer removed and no elbow and doing dusty/dirty roads and the upcoming rallycross. think ill leave it how it is.
^^^^ havent had mine on for about 1.5yrs now... filter is never that dirty and I drive dirt roads 2-3 times a week.... it aint gonna get much more dirty air then having it in... UNLESS you are missing your inner guard then you have issues...
