I am looking for a skid plate for an 02 wrx sedan. I would like to get it so I can install it before the ice races. Let me know what you have and how much.

primitive offers 1/8 and 3/16th thicknesses. I have both the front skid and rear diff protector (3/16) and i am really happy with them. IMO well worth the money.

also IIRC Grimmspeed sells skid plates but not diff protectors.

+1 for Primitive. I am very pleased with the one on my '06 wagon.
    http://www.get-primitive.com

It's taken some hits on gravel roads that I was sure would leave dents, and have even kept me watching the oil light for a mile or two, and its never let me down.

They also have a great rear diff skid plate that's less than 1/2 the weight of the heavy stock one but is very tough.

I also really like my RallyInnovations light bar www.rallyinnovations.com . It protects the bottom of the front lip from parking curbs, ice chunks, cones or really tough bunnies, etc. and is a sturdy mount for extra lights. You have to ask for a front plate mount for it but they didn't charge me any extra for it.

primitives web page sucks to browse through. I tried clicking on the "go" for the item I wanted and it wont let me. I tried another and it says the page is "not found". I have tried it in firefox and in IE. might go rally armor just for the ease of ordering it. what a headache that site is.

I might even make one like suggested above.

web site works for me (firefox)

just call them up and order, thats what i did. they were really cool. I personally would get the plate w/ no holes. its not that hard to drop the plate and it removes all chance of getting a stick/rock speared through your oil filter/pan.

mine came with the oil drain hole and i wish it werent there.

    +1

I would still just drop the money and get the primitive one. its garunteed fitment, saves lotsa of fiddling time and it has the front lip on it (front lip is FTMFW!!!!!!!! I had them put a custom lip on mine).

$270 for full 3/16" w/ all hardware. i tried the go button and it didnt work. just call them on monday.

cut it out with a saber saw and a 'metal type' blade.

to make it easy, put a piece of insulation foam underneath the aluminum.
(so you don't cut into the table)

you still would need a 'metal break', to bend the stuff.

the only bend on teh wrx plate is the front lip, which isnt mandatory but is very nice.

would you go with the 3/16 or the 1/8???

I do not do a lot of off road driving, mostly gravel roads and the ice races. will the 1/8 be good enough or should I go with the 3/16? Is the diff protector worth it??

sound so funny to me to think that you would need a skid plate for the ice races. when i was there it was little tiny ice chunks and powder snow that was all pushed aside in a madder of two runs and then it was glare ice. i just cant picture people (especially the people on mnsubaru) diving there subies on a coarse that has big old ice chunk that could cause enough damage that you would need a skid plate and a diff protector. its like doubling up on condoms when when all your doing is slipping her the finger...

get the 3/16 plate and diff piece. if you are lowered its worth the cost for piece of mind. i have lost count of the numerous things which have been demolished by my skid plate that would have in turn demolished my oil pan. also last year there was a MASSIVE ice chunk that would have F-ed any car that hit it. a couple got pretty close to it.

You should see some a the dents and gouges that are in my plate and diff protector :eek4:

all the time. there have been a fair number of times on 94 where i am following someone and they swerve at the last minute to avoid hitting debris (mainly left overs from an recent car crash) and i dont have time to avoid it. i think the biggest thing i have hit on 94 was a whole headlight housing. loud clunk and glass shattering sounds. glad it hit the skid plate and not my oil pan.

I have bumped the rear diff cover on the ground also, mainly from going over big bumps @ speed or with weight in the car. I only have like 3-4" of clearance at the rear diff, so it doesnt take too much.
