I am in the market for some quiter exhaust for my car. I like the sound of my current exhaust, I just really don't want the attention anymore.... good or bad. I have been following NASIOC for a while, watching for a used Borla Hush or Maddad Whisper to come through, but there aren't many around and they disappear instantly with all the people hawking the forum. I currently have a Apexi GT CBE on my car that I would be willing to trade or sell if there is interest. Nothing big wrong with it... no dents or holes, just wear and tear from being an exhaust for the past 3 years on my car. So, let me know what you have for sale or trade. Thanks!
I feel ya man, I had that same exhaust and couldn't stand all the attention it attracted. Super nice tone though, one of the best IMHO:yumyum: worst case senario- buy the Apexi ATS Silencer. Good luck!
I have the slip-in silencer and that definitely makes a big difference in the sound. But, with my mods, I feel like it is bad for the car to drive it hard with the silencer in. I get a high pitch whistle almost out of the tip at WOT over 5k rpms. Feels like the engine is trying to push all the exhaust out a 1.5" hole... wait, it is. Silincer has worked well on long drives and such, but I like to be ready for some hard driving whenever the oppurtunity presents itself ;-)
I would say no to the borla hush. Sounds like poopy to me. Highway drone FTL! Maddad is pretty hard to come by used. So if you see a thread, get to it quick. I just bought a V1 maddad stealthback (non tapering) for $180 shipped!!! I got a steal and I had been on the maddad hunt for months before I came across it. You've been around for a while, but other quieter systems if you didn't aready know are the Tanabe touring med., stromung, and evo2. I think they all taper though. **EDIT:: Maybe this will help some just to get an idea of dB levels. http://www.turbomagazine.com/tech/0212tur_subaru_wrx_exhaust_dyno_results/index.html
Absolutely no drone, very quiet. 3" back. Same performance, less noise. My tires are 10x louder than my exhaust. When I took my friend for a ride in the car after I bought it he said "I thought you said it had an aftermarket exhaust". LMK
According to the link from SubieDave, that Greddy Evo2 exhaust is really quiet. I thought that was a fart can just like mine?
this is always an option, and I've heard people don't have any issues with them. (tuning, etc...) http://www.apexi-usa.com/product_exhaust_detail.asp?id=217&pageNum=1
http://youtube.com/watch?v=RBskx2eOQr8 http://youtube.com/watch?v=9YRwlJ2Byyo&feature=related I don't like the idea after watching the video.
I say, the SPT with a resonator in the mid-pipe. I am tempted to put one on my SPT catback. I have 2 2bolt 3" flanges ready for it too! Is mine too loud?
I've been pleasantly surprised with the STi axleback mated to my catted Maddad Stealthback. Good bass-y rublez at idle/low rpms with decent growl at WOT. Most importantly, no f'ing drone. None. Nada. Zilch. If I did anything else it would be the 2.5" Maddad Whisper Twin-Tip.
h23... any chance you are going to be in the cities any time soon? I need to get an uppipe gasket replaced on my exhaust. When I do, I will try to put up a video of what the beast sounds like.
Yes actually.. I'll probably be down there to get tuned in about 2 weeks or so. If you want to meet me at RS and get them swapped before the tune, I'm game.
That might work. Is there any way for you to take a video of your exhaust? I am going to try and do the same after I get an uppipe gasket replaced.
Here is quick video I made tonight of my setup..... We changed the audio settings for the second two clips, so you might have to turn it up a bit. Enjoy!
I have never seen a video of my car before. I was kind of pumped that it actually looked decently quick : )
i would be willing to put up my spt catback for trade. i like the sound and look of mine but am always up for change. lmk
How does the SPT compare sound wise? Also, what style of connection does the SPT use to connect to the DP?
its a bit louder than stock. quiet up to about 3k rpm. i think we might be able to swap the axle backs, not the full system. my mid-pipe is dented from off-roading, so you probably dont want that piece. you can hear it in this video @ 2:40, 6:00, and my super long section @ 6:35 http://youtube.com/watch?v=2Nuv0fQ_bDI
