Nokya 55w bulbs work fine and are cheap. That's what I use with good results.
    Factory housing fogs I assume?

Somewhere I have a used set of Hella Yellowstar 85W H3 bulbs, but I don't generally recommend overlamping except with specific lights that can take it (and stock lights can't).

Looks like the Nokyas run about $20/pair + shipping and the Hellas would run more like $12.28+$7.05 from rallylights.com

Not to thread jack but Vector what would be your suggestion for some brigther bulbs for bugeye headlamps? Mine are pretty damn dim and don't light up the road too much in the absence of street lamps.

Good Q. Bugeye headlights (as 02blubru will attest to as well), suck.

It's not so much the bulb, it's the pattern. The only easy improvement beyond a good bulb like a Silverstar Ultra, is to go with a non DOT bulb with a higher wattage high beam and a normal wattage low. The reason you can do this is because when you're using the high beams, you're going to have a lot more airflow (because presumably, you're driving highway speeds), and you won't have the lights on high for extended periods.

I did this with my bugeye with no overheating issues (100w high beams), even when i left them on by accident during the day for a couple hours straight (of highway travel). But they were starting to get a bit toasty at that point (could smell them when I stopped and realised they were on, but no visible darkening or distortion of the plugs or housings).

There aren't many good options for getting better lights in place of the headlights. You could scour the internet and maybe get lucky and locate a set of Morettes with the proper LHD pattern. There are some cheap knockoff lamps that can be gotten with a projector low that might work ok, and might adapt to HIDs ok, but I never got around to trying them.

If you need more like out in the country, where you can be using your high beams, you could consider adding driving lights or replacing the stock fogs with driving lights (Hella 500FF will fit in the stock openings very nicely).

Yellow bulbs reflect more and may help you on darker roads and in inclement weather.

Daniel Stern bulbs have been recommended to me, but after spending $60+ on the 55w +70 bulbs and having them burn out in 6 months, I no longer extend that recommendation.

Upgrade the factory lamps to the Hella 500s.

My bad if it offends you I'll gladly take it to PM's...I'm just not much of a thread starter for simple questions...and I'm sure other people can benefit from Vector's knowledge.

    bugeye lights do suck.

I put hella 500 fogs in and they helped alot.
I also have a set of normal wattage low beam and 100watt high beams that I had in my car if you want them. Vector what do they go for new? you can have mine if you come get them.

I did not say you could not thread jack, I was just saying it was a thread jack.

you should write up a post for the technical section...

Tintmasters carries "Noyka" but there only choice in the H3 yellow is a 70w'er

    http://www.nokyausa.com/hy/hy7615.html

I think Boomer runs these but I am unsure ... I almost but them but then got scared of burning up my stock harness.

Look at the case. Its a 55w bulb, just the "output" of a "70w" bulb. Ran these in my projector fogs with good luck.

if you look it up on their website it says 55w draw and 70w output. so it is a 55w bulb.

they have them in stock??? how late are they open? where they located?

Ive been running a set of Nokya 55watt and yes they are only 55 not 70. The 70 is just packaging hype. Don't expect great things from them as far as light output. They look good and last a long time but as with any colored bulb you do lose a bit of output. Even with the reduced output they are great when you use them for what they are designed for FOG.

would a set of 3000k HID's work good for fogs? I know a few people are using them.

HID or not, lighting will still be limited due to the fog light cut off. It may be a more intense light, but the light will not extend any further because it is in a fog light housing.

Nokya had unproven claims, just like PIAA. 55w draw will not have a 70w output. I've read this somewhere..I need to find the link

I got a set of Narva Golds for my fogs from Daniel Stern, and they lasted for three years while I had the RS, and they were working fine when I sold it. He was also very willing to discuss my lighting needs.

^ That thread is pretty good. I disagree with him on a few points, but in general it's fairly informative.
