I need beer bottles for my soon to come first batch of beer. I would love to find some flip top bottles but non twist glass bottles will do. I also need wine bottles for obvious reasons. let me know if anyone has some or can save some and bring them up during the ice races
He'll need brown bottles too, no clear or green. (I'm a brewer also, and sorry, all my bottles I need) One thing that I did to boost my collection was to talk to a friend who was a server at a resturant. She saved me all the brown break-off top bottles. I just had to clean them and de-label them.
green/clear bottles - they let in light which causes some chemical reaction and your beer gets skunky
i don't know how much that is going to affect such a small batch off brew. I think everyone knows that fact now because of the sam adams commercial. I'm sure green and clear bottles will do just fine, its not like I'm shipping them or anything
come to my house any sunday night and you'll see a whole recycling bin full of used bottles free for the taking. We usually go through a half dozen 12 packs a weekend. And we drink man beer too. None of this domestic, watery crap. Mostly Stella Artois, Becks, Smithwicks, Newcastle, etc. I think the only domestic around is Lienie's HoneyWiess. So everything is a pop off (besides the Lienie's).
Its something to do with the sunlight allowed into the bottle and free radicals and the chemical reaction they cause with the beer.
i would ONLY use brown bottles for homebrew. Light will definately affect how the beer tastes and since it isnt pasturized you will need to keep it out of the light.
midwest brewry ... VERY low prices on bottles... 9.00 for 24 bottles. (or less now I think...) buy 3 boxes for a 5 gallon batch. you WILL use that 3rd box. http://www.midwestsupplies.com/products/ProdByCat.aspx?Cat=70
Yeah, you might not be shipping them, but assuming your using glass carboys for fermeting, light can really effect the beer. I always put a dark towel around my carboy that will not let light pass through, then i use only brown bottles plus i cover all of them in the rest phase right after bottling. If you have any questions on brewing please feel free to pm me. I love teaching people about brewing beer + i love getting tips from other people. I plan on brewing another batch here in the next few weeks, just gotta decide what to brew.
been brewing for a while myself, been experementing with light cycles / Maple syrup instead of sugar... I believe I have knocked out a perfect recipe for liquid panty remover.
I haven't had a bad bottle that you've made. Now the miller lite at your Halloween party... We won't talk about that. :ugh:
haha, to drink??? That's fine with me next weekend. I'll be in nashville this weekend, but i'm back Monday.
I got another batch that is in the final stage right now. It's a nut brown (like newcastle). We'll have to have a "taste testing" in a couple of weeks.
