Came hot into a corner (top of 3rd in the 6spd), initiated slightly late - we were staying on the inside and tracking to make it through the corner until the right rear tire just tapped the sand that built up on the outside from the cars ahead of us - that was enough to suck the entire back down into the ditch and because I was already sliding perpendicular to the road we went over. Rolled 3 times and ended up in a swamp. Both Dave and I are ok. The car is mainly damaged cosmetically. The frame appears to be better than it was lol (we bent it at a previous rally - this roll actually pushed it the way it needed to go). the suspension seems to be in the right spot. the motor is straight and the timing belt isn't touched (I even started it but it died shortly after - flooded I think). the cage hasn't been damaged. we need a front clip, roof, windows and maybe a door. the rear quarters are a bit dinged too but nothing major. we will be ready for ojibwe (or we might have a different car)
another car at this race took a large tree in the co-driver's door just in front of the b-pillar, so 3 locals down at NT3
Couple of things. I was going to tease you a bit about the little safety string holding the camera to the door handle. I guess it is strong enough to hold it on. Rally hair = Fail?!?!? Glad every on is ok. Russ
we need help, what nights are you free? did you buy that one hood that was fs on here a while back? we need to have it stripped down for when graham gets back from the x-games. he is going to fix the structural damage. we need to do as much cosmetic and other repairs as we can this week. car isn't at my house but it's not too far away
it's an interesting experience. would almost be fun if it wasn't my car and dave and I weren't in it lol.
Ouch, that sucks. But, I'm glad you guys are ok. I hope you can find the parts you need to get it back up and running for ojibwe.
welder(check) angle grinder(check) sawzall(check) pry bar(check) bfh(check) ok lets go to work but my pry bars are more or less very thick pipes
i'll give you a call nick - the car isn't at my house right now but we'll be going up pretty much every night this week
Glad you guys are all ok, that video is crazy. We were wondering where you were marshalling on stage 2.
famous last words of Dave.. "REMEMBER IT TIGHTENS"... bummer guys also did you never get told to not put your hand on the roof??!?!? ha ha h
3 things 1. glad everyone is ok. 2. to much traction on the new dirt tires??? 3. if ya need help, let me know I will do what I can. I am good at ordering pizza and picking up chipotle!!
I was reaching for the shifter to grab second when I realized we were being pulled into the ditch but by that time we were airborn. I immediately bring my arms back into a cross over my chest. Dave's hand comes up to push the windshield glass out of his face we were about 30 ft. off into siegler swamp as it is now know main problem was I didn't correct for 2 things - I carried better speed through the preceeding corners and I forgot that the cars ahead would move dirt to the outside. I keep watching it and realizing where I should have initiated my slide - hindsight is 20/20.
Ditto for me. Also a very good gopher, and am available almost anytime, anyday on the first half of every week (I work my 40 on the last half). I can wrench and stuff, just have to point me in the right direction. PM me if you need an extra set of hands. Glad you guys are OK and that the safety equipment did it's job!
unfortunately as the car is not in my possession it's not up to me who can come work on it right now. Dave, me and some of the ziptie crew will be working at it at the undisclosed location this week until Whiskers comes back from the x-games. at that point the car will be transferred to his shop where he will perform the delicate repairs and go over the rest of the car since he knows a thing or two about fixing crashed rally cars. after that I estimate by the 8th or 9th that the car will be back in my garage - I will then need help from anyone who can do body work to fix some of the purely cosmetic issues.
wow glad to see everyone is okay, and thanks for the vids the incar stuff sounded just like the pros!
I'm glad you and Dave are ok, and that the car seems to be fixable. Those things happen pretty darn quick, don't they? One minute I was on the road, the next second I realized we flipped it three times...
Jesus dude, Erin and I are both glad that you two are ok. That was our first concern. Cars can be repaired. Best of luck. You know i'm just down the road if you need anything. (Of course I know the car isn't there ) Feel free to drop me a line if needed. Any extra tools, air tools, warm body, photographer, etc etc. I'll loan up whatever I can.
thanks guys, it was bound to happen sooner or later - still kicking myself for driving that corner all wrong. I'll just blame the dccd program i was running lol
Yeah I guess we've learned a few valuable lessons... 1st stage @ 80% for the newbs, not 100% like we were doing. I remember coming into the 1st corner after the stage start really hot compared to the other nemadji's and thinking to myself we're going to have a great stage time. Carl has been driving so well so I wasn't worried. When we got to the big left I could sense we both knew we were very hot, but we'd rock through it like every other time. The crash happened so damn fast...just wow! I hit my back pretty hard, I think it was the right side bolster support for the seat so my back and ribs feel like hell. I think it happened when I put my hands out in front of me when the windshield was coming in along with 400 yards of dirt. Going to the doctor today to make sure nothing is broke. It didn't feel too bad saturday until late at night. I'm hoping/pretty sure I just got badly bruised or pulled a few muscles. Oh well, time for some new parts and a revised race strategy for Ojibwe.
Glad you two are ok! Honest question though, Carl I saw your arm go up and press against the roof did you get hurt from this?
no my arm was going for the shifter to grab second it's just that the shifter was no longer in that spot - you don't really realize you're rolling until the second time you hit so I thought I could still drive out of it (same as mark standing on the gas while upside down)
Yeah that is the rally driver mentality isn't it  wait till all four or hell even just two hit the ground again and put it to the floor
holy balls, Carl is going to be a great racer! Seriously your following the steps of TP (Travis Pastrana) hopefully you don't roll as many cars as he has. But getting right on the ragid edge and keeping it is the name of the game and now that you found the edge you'll be able to drive closer to it with out going over (plus you didn't learn this by hitting a tree which is so much worse then rolling :ugh: most of the time). + you won't make it onto this video
Glad you boys are ok, looks like a hell of a ride. Have you considered auctioning off the carnage? I'm sure a few of us could use a some garage "art".
Sorry didn't realize I was in the wrong thread (other things going on in my head ...). Oh I didn't realize that that the lights were not a complete hood, saw the pics when I was banned and didn't look too in depth. I'm sure you could find something here http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=162 I have been looking for a little while today.
