EDIT: Thanks to those interested, we have currently filled our immediate need for new crew members. Ziptie Rally Team is looking to bring on new crew members for 2010. We have an early season situation where we are looking to be short on service crew for the Sno*drift pro-rally as well as 100 Acre Woods (and potentially later in the season for other events). New crew would act as substitutes when members of our normal crew cannot attend a race. Currently ZRT is comprised primarily of myself as driver, Dave (scuba_steve) as co-driver, and the following crew: Dan (boomer) (Crew Chief when present), Dan (dmoo), Matt (Chux), Sheen (idget), and Brian (bielke55). For 2010 we will be operating an Open class Subaru WRX STI under #171. What to expect: We are a grassroots level team and with our budget paying crew is not possible. Specifics of each race's financial situation are usually explored via hilarious 200 email exchanges several weeks in advance. Races are typically run Friday and Saturday. This means we will leave on a Wednesday or Thursday and return Sunday or Monday depending on distance. There will be a lot of downtime. The car returns to the service pits on intervals spaced over several hours and is usually in the pits for less than 1 hour. A typical service will be something like: pull wheels, inspect brakes, re-torque suspension bolts, inspect fluids, inspect or change tires, clean windows. This is the "ideal" situation for the car. Often times things are "not ideal" and more in-depth repairs will be required such as swapping radiators, turbos, struts, control arms, headlights. Familiarity with Subarus is preferred. A crew doesn't need to be a complete expert on the car but should be able to remove a strut without instruction or pull a brake rotor. On the fly improvisation skills are also important - when you only have 30 minutes to fix the car and you don't necessarily have the right replacement part or tool to do it, you have to get creative. Our current crew are masters at this and we don't run under the name of Ziptie Rally for nothing! Crew must also be good at working with others and doing their specific task under the Crew Chief's directions. Crew are also recommended to be versed in passing gas, paying more attention to what's for lunch than when the car is due into service, drinking and general lulz (for example, blowing up gas grills, getting kicked out of bars, taking over factory subaru's parking spots at the hotel, and so on). If you are interested please contact me either via pm or email: carl . siegler at gmail . com please send the following information: Full name Age Location Brief overview of your knowledge of subarus and technical ability availability from Jan 26 to Feb 1 I am interested in bringing new crew on soon so they have time to familiarize themselves with the car's set-up during December as we will probably not be doing much work on it in January when the IIRA ice racing begins.
Do you know the dates for the events of the 2010 season? This might help for planning availability of potential new members.
Sorry, forgot to put that in there. The one we are looking to be the worst off for crew is Snodrift Jan 29 - 30 in Atlanta, MI. That is the actual race, we have yet to decide what day we will leave (recce is available which would add another full day but we are not sure if we will do it or not). 100AW is Feb 26 - 27 in Salem, MO and is another race where we may be short hands
If you used blue tarps instead of green, I might be moar interested. Seriously though, good luck in finding people. My skewl situation doesn't let me throw down how I'd like to.
As I said to you at the winter meet, I can help you back at home base, thanks to the closeness of our houses. I unfortunately cannot commit to helping you on the road. Don't hesitate to drop me a line ever! Best of luck this year and keep the rubber side down. Don't want grandpa dave breaking a hip. -Ryan
I can help from time to time at your hq if need be. but with the new job I can not commit to anything that involves those kinds of days off. sorry and best of luck in snow drift and the upcoming season.
may be interested in helping out with the Missouri race in february, but idk if my level of subie expertise is high enough but if you guys just want an extra set of hands id be in cuz im assuming you will be driving right past my school, even if not id still be interested
Tall Dan is tall! Hey Carl...is that your trunk monkey!?(asian guy next to the fella with the hardhat)
hey guys it was nice talking to you all, i really appreciate the opportunity! i hope to be a great contributing member! o yea im taking your advice and hoping for 400whp next spring!
im going to be at sno-drift most likely so if u find yourself short a guy i can help out im going to be there anyways.
All I can say is I spend many nights in hotels and incure many free nights very quick. However my technical knowledges about subarus are still somewhat intermidate.
you have a blue STi, that equals a parts car when i am not there. can you change a tire? and ziptie things? if so consider pmmmming carl...
I am considering this, but I also hope on having some form of employment by that time next year so time off might be an issue. Also my knowledge of Subarus is fairly limited :-(
let us know martin, you'd be a great fit for the crew and I think yourself short on your Subaru knowledge to all those inquiring, the crew and I are spending time reviewing our options and will get back to everyone within the next week or so. We will probably be selecting on an event-to-event basis depending on existing crew's obligations. Right now our focus is on sno*drift. We want to bring a smaller crew to sno*drift so we will be looking at those with the most technical experience
Remember, an inability to hold your liquor is a prerequisite for all Ziptie team members. wives/girlfriends/boyfriends excepted.
out of every rally we entered last year we only pussed out on LSPR. Otherwise we've partied hard after every other one....
I had a blast getting trashed in the comfort of our hotel and hot tub at LSPR. You probably don't remember it, but you did too
Well my teammates may be lame on the party side of things, but I think Sara and I did a fine job boozing it up at LSPR. Dave on the other hand sat around being old. I think Carl was pooping that whole night.
^LOL. I really want to get involved, believe me. I just need to finish my business before I can really frolic in the game. I'm sure the team could benefit from a MacGyver.
thinking about it. Very up in the air, as i may even have a job by then (!). Will be a last minute decision for sure.
Depending on a lot of things I might be able to for Sno Drift. I am waiting to here from the Pirate whether or not he will need me to crew for his team. Other than that, I would be down for a ride out there either way.
you are one brave girl. Unfortunately though I suspect that after crewing or even traveling with us you would come to hate us....or think we're nutz. lol
I already know you are all NUTZ! Remember Marks house...I still wish I could have moved fast enough to video Carl dancing!!!
Yes, when that half of a Redbull was used to make half a dozen Jagbombs.:eek3: Thanks for pouring my drinks Sheen.
Just let us know again when you need more crew members. I would also love to be on your crew, but I am unsure about my work schedule for the dates you need us. ~Dan
