The Ziptie Rally Team took an early beating at the 2010 running of the Lake Superior Performance Rally. The team had three cars entered in the Regional Cup Championship – the 171 Open Class STI of Carl Siegler/Dave Goodman, the 858 Open Light Impreza of Anthony Israelson/Jesse Lang and the 558 Group 5 S10 of Jim Cox/Dan Drury. On the opening stage, the 558 S10 suffered a control arm failure negotiating the first corner. With no spare on hand, the team was forced to withdraw. A very disheartening result for Jim and Dan but the two still finished the 2010 season as the Rally America Central Region Group 5 Champions for both driver and co-driver.

The 171 STI also suffered suspension failure early on. After turning in some very respectable times on SS1 and SS2 (as fast as 3rd overall) Carl and Dave were excited to head out to the forest stages. The car was running very strong with a larger turbocharger, new ecu tune and new DMACK GRIPPA tires which were proving to be unbelievably good performers. Unfortunately a washed out section on SS3 exposed a rock that would end Carl and Dave’s run prematurely. As the car came over a crest, Carl was unable to see the slight washout and rock until it was too late (watch the in-car here ). The resulting impact broke the balljoint, tie rod, axle and wheel. Carl and Dave finished the 2010 season 2nd in the Central Region Open Class.

With two of the three Ziptie Rally supported cars out of the rally, the team focused in on their remaining runner, the 858 Open Light Impreza. This was the final event in Anthony’s inaugural rally season. This was also the first time Jesse had co-driven for Anthony. Anthony drove a clean and consistent rally. The 858 car pushed through some challenges Anthony had not experienced yet – such as unexpected water on the Herman stages and heavy dust during the night. When it was all said and done, Anthony and Jesse ended LSPR first in-class for the event and the Regional Cup. Anthony finished 3rd in the Central Region Open Light Class.

Carl what you need is R2D2 to man the laser guns to zap those rocks. LOL You guys did an incredible job finishing 2nd despite the unfortunate mishap. The incident could of been worst, glad you guys are okay.

I bet those components could make some very attractive paper weights or souvenirs.

Man, that pic of Cox's S10 is painful! Glad to hear though that Izzy and Jesse finished 1st in class!

Stupid rock. It would have been a really fun and close race in Open class if that rock didn't take 171 out.

That was a hell of a bump and rock hit, the times that I have raced at LSPR its always has been tough on the cars! When we drove over the hill and I saw your car, it made me think of my last LSPR, we went off also and had to DNF. Congrats on the season tho!!
